How Do Yon Like It f
Well, how do jou like tbe idea of
our Farmers Union column?
If our farmers column is not as good
as you think It should be, suppose you
chip in and make it better.
A good, practical farmer is eure to
know something which, if told will
benefit bis neighbor.
Usually the man that know9 things
has no trouble in telling what be
knows, and then be stops talking.
Men that really know little, or nothing,
talk long tryiug to tell something
they don't know.
Farmers' Iusiitutes are good school*
for both old and young larmers, but
they don't come your way but once a
year, while our Farmers' Union columns
visit you each week?that is, it
you subscribe for your home paper.
If all your neighbors?for the *ant
of better knowledge of business? sell
their cotton crop for what it costs to
make il, or less, then you are com pel led
to take the same price for yours. You
Bee that, in order to get profitable
prices at the beginning, you must go
out and bring in your neighbors with
" V . - ?ou- i
Where is the profit or sense of making
three bales of cotton grow where
t^ogrew before if that little 2x4 cotton
speculator comes in for that extra
third bale?
Better come across, boys, and join
the Farmers' Union and learn to grow
the right size crop and then tell it
right.
The Farmer*' Union is standing this
hot battle against cotton speculators
and winning some advantages in
every skirmish.
If you thiuk you have a better plan
to organize farmers and keep tbem organ,
zed tban the Union, why let's
nave it, and we will join right into it
with you, for we can never maintain
; j profitable prices to tbe producer without
organization and loyal cooperation.
'?"
....Tf vftn p?n jrrnw all nitrnwri
needed in your soil free of cost by
planting cowpeas, why in thunder
don't you do it? After the nitrogen is
placed in the ground, then the peavine
bay stack is a mighty good fortification
for the mules to stand behiud
when rough times and March winds
comevalong'. Mortgage mules are said
to like town hay beat, but good Far "
. mere' Union men don't believe it.
?If you think that you are a little
too good, too smart, too rich or too
insignificant to join in with your
neighbors in the Farmers' Union, do
go and join the Cotton Association or
some other orgonization that is doing
good your Southern country.
j?\ . . Many of us Farmers'Union men be?
; _ long to the Cotton Association, and we
' enjov sitting in council with these
? , bright businessmen of the South. We
learn something every time we meet
with them; and it does tbe farmer
good to hear tbese big, rich men the
farmer that every interest of tbe whole
S South is dependent upon the prosperity
of the farmer.
After rubbing up against these
shrewd business men in a Cotton Association
we feel mighty proud and
rich for a long time afterwards; but
when we are in deep trouble about
i the everyday affairs of the farming
interest, and are seeking out a fraternal
friend that is in it with you in everything,
and that should be loyal to
his own. we just naturally want to set
right along by the side of the old farmer
and whisper the pass word into
t his ear.
v The Cotton Association is no more a
farmers organization than it Is a business
man's organization. You caDnot
build a stone mansion out of wood.
A farmers organization must be made
of farmers.

Experiment "With Aldrlch System on
Farm of J. C. Strlbllnir.
Out of eight comparative tests the
Aldrich system of planting two rows
of corn and two rows of cotton altermating
on this plan with solid crops of
> J- -
cavu vubiuu auu uuiu, we ujuue 1CB8
crops of each?by actual measurement
and weight? under the Aldrich system
than where solid crops ot each cotton
aDd corn were planted, excepting
in one teat where we used 400 pound*
crushed cotton seed per acre! The
igain in this instance was 111-8 bushels
of corn and 1050 pounds of stalks
per acre in favor of the Aldrich system.
In coteideration of the fact that a
large number of practical farmers have
endorsed the Aldrich system, although
they have doae so without
putting the test to ac'ual weights aDd
measurements, we are of the opiniou
that tnere must be some advantage in
the syftem where -early field varieties
of corn is used along with late maturing
varietits of cotton. Thus by
planting tne corn as early as possible
we may remove tne corn off the land
in time to give the cotion more suulight
and the use of all the laud which
may be very beneficial to a late maturing
variety of cotton that has been
left rather thin on the land. In the
foregoing test cotton and corn were
planted the same day.

!,If you have any fault to find with
this paint, either now in putting it ou,
or hereafter in the wear, tell your dealer
about it.
"We authorize him to do what is
right at our expense."
The following story tells how little
the risk is;
J H Asher & Co, hardware dealers,
Rbinebeck, N Y, have sold Devoe
Irom '76 to now; have f-old tbousauds
of gallons and have had jutt oue complaint
in all this time.
Three sides of a houfe were perfect;
the foarth was as bad as the three
were good.
Explanation?It rained the night
before the fourth side was painted;
and the painters did not wait for the
wood to dry.
What is done in such a case? Whatever
the dealer, who sold the paint,
considers it fair to do. We leave it to
i him . He may not do exactly what we
should do if we were there: but we
are not there; The best we can do is
to leave it to him.
