There have been some changes in the ownership of houses and lands, in the near past. Mr. D. L. Barnes sold his place just outside of the town limits, to his brother, Mr. A. V. Barnes, and he, the last named sold his place to Mr. T. O Liddel. The changes in the homes of the buyers will take place on about the close of the year. Messrs Eugene Clinkscales and Tom Baskin went to Atlanta Thursday to attend the State Fair, going on at that place. For reasons which need not be given more was not said in last week's Press and Banner by the writer, as to life and sad end of Mr. J. Earle Allen. "With the consent of the Editor and the indulgence of the readers of above paper. will here-with give a short article as a tribute to the memory of his young friend. Last Thursday was a week ago, a friend wired from Selma Ala. to our - T1 A .1 iL-i townsman, iur, x>. jouhu aucu, iuat Mr. Earle Allen bad died in the hoe* pital in that place from a gunshot wound inflicted by a negro. Mr. Allen wired for tbe remains to be shipped to this place. They came in Friday evening attended by Mr. Hollis, Mr. Earle Allen's Copartner in large, farming and mercantile operations at Thompson, not very far from Selma to which place Mr. Allen was carried when shot. Far away in bis adopted borne, away from bis kindred and friends of his earlier days, he answered the summons despite the skill of physicians, and tbe kindness of new found friends. He was about 30years of age. 2nd son of Mr. Bolin Allen. Several years ago be went to bis new home and was making a success of his chosen life work when suddenly cut down. Earl was a genial whole-souled young man having a smile and a kind word for all, which made him very popular with all. Young and old alike are much sorrowed at his untimely end, which was brought by a black assassin's bul let, withoutcaube. uur young iriena is gone, yet his memory will remain green in the hearts of a multitude of friends for long years to come. The casket containing the remains, in which in the near past, was the home of a friendly liberal feeling toward all, was lowered iDto its last resting prace in the Smyrna cemetery, the day after they reached here in the presence of a large crowd of saddened friends and relatives, Rev.
