We thought that Abbeville had grown
away from Itscro 'kers, tliHt It had prospered
so greatly In the 'ast few years thst there
were no croakers left there, but it appears
that the tribe Is not extinct, and we sympathize
fully with tbe proposition that tbey be
required to do servfee on tbe chain gang, and
this blessing which we would ask for our

In Charleston.
There is no question about it that tbe prosperity
of tbts town has been greatly Impeded
by those of its own people who have tslked
against It, who being unsuccessful themselves,
have decried tbe succbss achieved by
their neighbors, who have been never ending
in their lamentations as to the unhappy estate
of their community, who have been a
hindrance, instead of a help, to every enterprise.
