These are Interludes of the farmers Just bow
between showers, the first Is a Joyful souk of
the lazy Indifferent farmer, while the last Is ?
pitiful refrain of the wide awake, Industrious
farmer who has no time for rest, but Is ever j
anxious about bis crop and can't rest for ,
wanting to "wade into the grass. '
From appearances It seems that some of thtfarmers
aloog Route Ko. 3 are trying to raise ,
cotton and bay together, and we think If the .
rains continue a few more days the hay
would prove the most profited crop of the <
two.
The grass baa already reduced the cotton
acreage of one farmer 10 acres which has been
ploughed up and sown In peas and we expect
this will be done by others and perhaps that
too without any peas.
The farmers are having a hard pull just
now, but are comforted by the thought, that ,

Have Pirates Still. J
It seems Incredible that pirates should roam t
the high seas during these days when so
i many modern navies are afloat, yet a most
thrilling and well authenticated story comes
lrom Malaga.
According to the cablegram the Spanish
sailing vessel Joven Teresa, while near the
Moroccan ooast, was chased and tired upon
by a Moorish vessel. There were a number of
Moors on board the Jove* Teresa, and they
tried to overpower her crew. t
The latter were finally compelled to flee In t
a small steam launch. They were pursued
by the pirates on the Jovan Teresa, and were 1
about to be overtaken, when a mail steam&r, f
thfl PinrtaH rip M?hnn. hnvA in ulirhr Tho t
cries of the sailors for help were beard and
tbe steamer bore down and picked tbem up. (
Tbe Moors beached the Jovan Teresa, and 1
then fired a fusillade at the Cludad de Ma- <.
hon.
It has been almost 100 years since the
United States Davy swept the northern coast
of Africa free of pirates, and the swarthy
seamen of that part of tbe world seem to have
forgotten tbe lesson,
uncle Sam may have some more business
over there soon.
Gruriuutiug Exercitiett.
The closing exercises of the Graded School
will be held In the Court House on Thursday ;
evening 25th Inst., beginning at 8:30 o'clock. J
For some time It was leared that the <
Court House could not be had lor this oc

session but Judge Klugb and the other
court officials have kindly arranged so that
the building can be used for tbe graduating
