Maoh to tb* regret of bis many friends Rev.
J. W. Elklns, pkator ofthe Methodist church
here has been aent to another place for next
year. Mr. Elklns has been here only one
year, bat In that time has made many friends
who hoped for blsreturn. The choir of the
church sustains a big loss In that ol Mrs.
Elklns. She was a fine organ 1st and a beautiful
singer and will be greatly missed. However,
as Mr. Elklns had to go, our people are
delighted at the idea of having Rev. Peter
Stokes here.
Mr. Stokes ls'not stranger here, having carried
on a protracted meeting here when Rev.
Duncan waB at this place. He will be given
a hearty weloome and it is hoped that he
will have a successful year.
It snowed here Wednesday and Thursday

SPARTANBURG'S GAIN.
The City of Spartans Has Captured
Mr. G. T. Tate, and Away He
Will Go. (
Mr. G. T. Tate, announces that be will
move from Abbeville to Spartanburg In Janu
a7n bis going away, Abbeville losses a eoofi
citizen. It was bad enongb for Spartanburg
to6tealaway the heart or Mr. C. P. Hammond,
bat not satisfied, with winning him,
that olty will take Mr. Tate, too.
We put oar neighboring city on notice that
this thing of taking our best young men
away from as must stop. We can 111 afTord |
to give ap Mr. Tate or Mr. Hammond. Their j
energy and their publlo spirit make them >
town builders.
Mr. Tats, like Mr. Hammond, will be an
an acquisition to Spartanbarg and a loss to
Abbeville. 1
LOSE TO ABBEYILLE.
Mr. C. P. Hammond Contemplates
Moving to Spartanburg.
It 1b tald that Mr. C. P. Hammond, whose
energy 1b only exoelled by bis pontic spirit,
contemplatesi pulling np stakes at \bbevllle i
'and going to Saprtanbnrg. It is a matter of j
regret tbat so good a man as Charlie Hammond
sbonld leave Abbeville. While others <
may have given more money to pnbllo en- I
terprlses. yet we believe no native born olt- |
lzen bas Invested more money or given more .
of his time In the bulletins? of thA tnvn of 1
tali nativity. Be was an active worker In 1
the organization of the cotton mill, and In <
establishing the farnltnre lac lory be was ,
an inspiring spirit and a steady worker. No 1
matter where Charlie Hammond takes posi- l
tlon be is a worker from WorkersvUle. In
the lead, under the aaddle, on the offside or
at the wheel, he does bis whole doty, and 1
works all ttae time with ttae greatest energy, <
and without tiring. If Abbeville, or any |
other town, had a dozen such men as C. P. .
Hammond, It would have to lengthen lis
oords and strengthen Its stakes, or else get I
too big for lis breecheB. I
Storing; Cotton. ]
It is a most remarkable fact that every man I
wbobas stored cotton In the Abbeville wareboose
has come out the gainer. The ware i
house has been In existence for three years.
Its business Increases every year, and. as far
as we know. Its customers have sained in i
every Instance.
Mr. Joe N. Nance and Dr. S G. Thomas are
notable Instances. Dr. Thomson has puthU 1
crop, aboat a hundred bales In tbe warehouse <
and Mr. Nance came to town when ootton 1
was a fraotlon over sine cents. He bought a
hundred bale* and stored It If be were to I
ell now bis profit would probably be twelve i
or fifteen hundred dollars. The offloers at ,
tbe warehouse contemplate adding another
division, or two rooms. 1

HOW WE CATCH A COLD.
A cold Is sometimes contracted while remaining
inactive for a-while In an uncomfortable
room or a cold draft, and by falling to
aleep under like conditions. But most colds
ire caught while sleeping too cold at night.
Deep sleep causes sluggish circulation, wbicta
renders the system susoeptlble to change ol
emperature. To prevent oolds, sleep under
plenty of oover. To oure colds, nse Rydales
Elixir; it lessens the severity and shortens
ibe duration of a cold and prevents PnenmoBronchitis
and Consumption. C. A. Mllford.
