friends who were charmed by his ready wit
and humor. .
He was a member of the Masooio fraternity 10

made bim one of the brightest Masons in the
State. In one of the Masonio State meetings, yi
oonvened in Charleston, some years ego be yf
was nresented by that body with a handsome a[
diamond ring as;a pledge of their honor, love iu

He had been engaged in the insurance busi- ou
ness, both fire and lile, ever since bis early
manhood, having the business banded down
to bim after tbe death of his beloved fatber; .
