Wall of Cotton Soorf hi Planttnf. 1
The Booth hi* never stopped to think how
much money Is wasted In planting
each cotton crop. Let us figure It out '
and see. Upon a safe estimate not less
than 400.poo tons of cotton seed are
used each spring In planting. The seed
Is sown lavishly in drills?not dropped j
at certain distances, as corn?and after \
the plants are up the crop is thinned ]
with a hoe, more than nine-tenths c-f I
the youwr plants being cut out. 1
Here we And that the seed used In
planting the cotton crop would bring lo j
the market at least $6,400,000. As nlno- i
tenths of this Is wasted, we *ee here a j I
total waste of over Ave snd one-bslf million
dollars (15,760,000.)
It is time for tho cotton growers of ;
the 8outh to call a halt to this ex* i
travagance. Tne oia system 01 *uwm*
cotton seed In the drill Is a remnant of
the times when cotton seed was almont
worthless. Since then their value h*i
so much enhanced that a chance should
be made In the manner of planting. Instead
of sowing' the seed Iti drills drop
them at a distance wanted, and by following
this method not only the labor
of thinning is saved, but nearly 400,000
lont of good cotton seed Is saved fcr
ommerclal use, and the farmers of the
South are five million dollars richer.
)Thp Caldwell Cotton Planter saves
the seed plants and gives good stand
with one peck to acre, saves enough
seed to pay for Itself In one season.
Inquire for It. Agents In all principal
towns, or write to Caldwell Cotton
planter Company. Wlnnsboro. 8. C.'
