REPORT
OF THE
ABBEVILLE-GREENWOOD
M 1MB
ASSOCIATION.
/
The annual meeting of policy holders of
the Abbeville-Green wood Mutual Insurance
Association wis held at Abbeville, Tuesday,
the 6th Inst.
The officers of the Association consist of
J. Fraser Lyon, President; J. It. Blake,
Jr., Secretary, Treasurer and General
Agent, and the directors hereinafter
named. The report of the Treasurer
showed that tho Association was in a
most prosperous condition. It Insures property
to three-fourths of its value agidnst
"Are, lightning, cyclones, tornadoes or wind
storms," and now carries insurant to the
amount of nearly eight hundred thousand
dollars. During its operation of ten years
it has paid louses and claims aggregating
thirty thousand dollars. These liabilities
have been paid by an average annual
assessment of live mills, being less than
half the cost of old line insurance companies,
or any other mutual association in
the State.
This Association especially commends
itself to public patronage in that it offers
absolute protection to property at a minimum
cost, and without sending a dollar
from the county to the monied centres of
the North.In
order to protect the Association from
the dangers arising from an over valuation
or depreciation of property, a township
board consisting of the township director
as chairman, and two policy holders is appointed
in each township every four years,
whose duty it is to revalue all property insured
in their respective townships. The
following boards of equalization have been
appointed, and will begin at once the duties
assigned them. In all instances where the
boards are not complete the directors
