THE WOMAN'S CLVB.
The Woman's Club met Ootober the fourth,
at tbe home of Miss Florence Henry. Mrs. J.
F. McKlnnon read an Interesting paper on
Edgar Allen Poe. This is tbe first meeting
tbe club has has bad in some time, but they
will continue their work during the winter.
Mr. and Mrs. Aug. W. Smith arrived in the
city Thursday. Mr. Smith returned to his
home in Woodruff Saturday. Mrs. Smith is
still here with her mother, Mrs. L. W. Perrin,
and will be here for ten days.

LYCEUM COURSE.
The entertainment given in the Coun
House last Thursday evening, iu the Lyceum
course was well attended and a very enjoyable
entertainment.
We regret to learn of the illness of Mrs. \V.
H. Lon>>, and we hope that she will boon be
wail atraiD.
Mr. Robert Bruce has taken a position, with
the Seaboard Air Line In Chester. Mr. and
Mrs. Bruce have moved to their new home.
Mr. Clittord S. Haddon who has been sick
for th* past few days, is able to be out again.

Lewi-Ellis, a colored man, who farms on
Mr. J. C. Tribb'e's land within the corporate
limits of Due West, has out eight heavy bales
ol cotton irom a one horse farm and expects
to gather several more. He prepared his
land well and applied tbe sweat of his face
freely.
Mr. P. R. Henry expects to gather two
bales of cotton from one acre of laud. He believes

Urier as assistants, the school is well equipped
and much Is expected by the patrons.

carried on.
Kev. James Boyce. the President of the
Due West Female College Is fitting up the
study ball with new patent desks. The
young ladles will now be entirely comfort,
able and will be expected to do some hard

be married. Miss Nichols is a graduate of the
Due W?st Female College, and admired lor
her splendid qualities of mind and heart.
Dr. Parker Is a successful young dentist at
Belton.and Is to be congratulated in that
tie has won the attectlon and lov. of one bq
well dited to grace his home.
Jklr. James liell. one of our most substantial
citizens, has bought a plantation iu the
neighborhood of Monterey. Mr. Bell Is one
of the best farmers In this nelghboruood and
we shall be sorry to see him leave Due West.
