Tbe following article was given out to the
prelast week by Col. Jones.
A good deal has recently been Raid about
tbe Stale Democratic Executive Committee
ruling Senator McLaarln out of tbe primary
and in tbe Current week's Issue of tbo Abbeville
Press and Banner Inquiry is made of
Col. Jones, wbetber be bas any thing 10 do
wltb such an effort, and censuring blin if he
bas and criticising such an action.
Col. Wylle Jones this morning said: "An
editorial In the Press and Banner seems to de
niand that I make some reply in Justification
of tbe Slate Democratic Executive Committee
and myself.

who would be unfair to any Democrat
In the State In any manner and each one of
thetu will do the utmost to do absolute Justice
to every Democrat. I have been assocla
led with these gentlemen for years, first as a
member of the committee, ana now an Chairman
of the Committee, and the Committee
baft never done a single thine that bad the
slightest tinge of Injustice. I know of no reaRon
now why the committee should be called
together until next May, when the Committee
will meet to call the State Convention.
Personally I have frequently said that I
was absolutely opposed to ruling Senator Mcl.,nurln
outof the Democratic party and primary,
and that bein^ my position I do not see
how I could be held responsible for any ettort
? or suggestion to rule Senator McLnurln out ol
the primary. I do not. however, speak for the
Oimmittee, bat parenthetically I may remark
without any break of confidence, that Senator
Tillman Is also now opposed to ruling Senator
McLaurlu out of the primary as be as well
as I iblnk the people can atall times be trusted
and can take care of themselves and their
interest.
As to the oath to be prescribed for the Democratic
candidates, that Is a matter for the
Convention Itself, but If ttoey do not prescribe
a form then It will be the duty of the next
Committee to prescribe the form of the oath.
I am satisfied that no Democrat will object to
subscribe to an oath prepared by the Convention
or Executive Committee of his own
party.
