Another Bad Crop.
Mr. J. Marlon Arnold of tbis neighborhood
was in town last Friday, selling cotton. He
Intended to make ten bales, but was scarce of
labor and bis crop is greatly cut off. He will
not make over seven heavy bales. He and
bl? family made tbts crop wltb a mule and a |

two-thirds of a crop. If be bad bad plenty ol
fertilizers and plenty of bands be could In a
seasonable year, make twenty bales, and thus
It la ibat Mr. Arnold actually made only twothirds
ol a crop. Mr. Arnold Is a hard-worker
and an economical man who always pays bis
rent promptly, wbetber It rains or shines.
Specimen Short Crop.
Mr. E. H. Hughes of tbe vlclnlnlty of Abbeville
Is another fatmer that made a short orop
of cotton this year. With one horse be has
ginned only seven bales, weighing 500 lbs
eacb. This so nearly Includes bis whole crop
that be tblnks he will pick only one more
heavy bale, or two light bales. When good
farmers like Mr. Hughes Is ruduced to eight
or nine heavy bales to tbe horse, there is real
cause for alarm, and there Is no telling how
short the crop will be this year. Tbe Increase
In price ol 87 or 58 a bale, however, will do
ometblng to even up things. ,
