peculiar about it, for Neil held it in his
bands and gazed at it as though it had
been a ghost. And it was not much
to be wondered at either; at least it
has not been my experience to find

r An echo is a sound wave, reflected
aud repeated by striking an opposing
surface. There are some very remarkable
echoes. A writer in 1760 declares
that near Milan there was an echo
' that repeated the report of a pistol shot
r. sixty times but no such echo is now
known. Sir John Herschel states
that there was an echo at Woodstock
