Their Xew I'lans ami Their Ko.v As far as we know, the Seaboard road had lie unanimous sympathy of the people at tie beginning of their bo.vcot, but we think bat public sentiment in their behalf Is weakning. At the first, the public intuitively thought be hoy cot was a bold attempt of strong cotnletttors to crush out a weaker rival. It now appears that the bnycot was the roll it of cause. If the Seaboard would hold lie publie+ij mpatliy it ought to disprove the igly charges about t tie consignment of freight istensibly lor Charleston and Savannah, but vlncli was in reality for Atlanta. In what we here say, we except Mr. I5unch tlcliee. who is, i>y all, acknowledged to be a nost efficient railroad tiian. We mention some of our reasons for beltevngthat the road has in the past, been badly uanaged. and is now not managed as it ibould be. No proper effort has been made to get ind lion! the bus'ness of this town, and be^ ause of tills Inefficiency. it has lost, or fails oget much business that It would otherwise ;et. Upon notification howjver, that a strike would follow if such an or icr was enforced, report says that the ordei tor reduction of wages was Immediately rescinded. Another complaint Ip. that it was proposed to give Western men.or strangers, the places r>f home people who were discharged for uc fault. But some of the new men failed U tiand the usual examination, and were 1101 allowed to take the places made vacaut fot them. The frequent wrecks on the road last yeai showed Incompetency or inelllciency some where. The Seaboard may be able to maintain s good business without efficient men to culll vate the people who would, or ought to, p it ronl/e the road, but It certainly could do i better business, if It were more efficient aud showed itself more friendly. They bungled along for a year or two at th< gates of Atlanta, and even now it seems thu there are business men iu that city who bavi never heard ol the Seaboard. Fickleness Is shown, too, in the frequen changes of its officers and in hauling t he ol (ices around. For a while Abbeville wn headquarters for (lie traiu dispatcher. Til train dispatcher has been cliauged, and tli otlice moved to Atlanta. It is said that Vice-President St. John is i !lrst class railroad man, but. even with tha he ought not to untagouise the people by dismissing home folk for no other reason that to give place to favorites. And if he had been a first class railroni man he ought not to have retu.-ed railroai connection with the Chester and Lenoir Nat row U.iuge road, and thus allow it to becom a feeder to the Seaboard's rival.
