The Goveruor'ft MesfcAgc. sc
We are proud to be able to present to our
readers the message which Governor Tillman N
6ent to the General Assembly yesterday. j
Although, from careful reading of the document
It would seem that Governor Tillman
does not hold the highest regard for the Federal
Courts which have receivers of railroads $
in this State, yet from first to last it is an in- 4
teresting paper. i
The Governor takes up some time In diR- 5
cussine the Dispensary law, and In making
recommendations in reference thereto, most 0
of which recommendations are practical and ^
worthy of the attention of the Legislature.
That part of his message which treats of 1
the need of a metropolitan police will bees- ^
peclally Interesting to those of our feliow-clti/ons
who may feel that there is no need to <j
obey the dispensary law.
The Governor refers with pride to the Co). >
leges of the State and claims for the Reform- E
ers something of credit for Clemson College
for boys and the Industrial school for girls. \
The sea coast sufferers receive attention o
from the Executive. ^
The fact is, that the document, except what b
he says of the Courts, is without extra words, a
or.*? nooria tr? h? rftad bv everv one. ?
e:
The ?oxernor'a hessake an an Extra.
The Press and Banner, as has been Its ens- ?
torn, gave various of our brethren the oppor- 2(
tunlty of presenting their readers with a copy si
of the message at very low figures. ?
We were sorry, too, that we could notac- a,
commodate others who coupled imprnetical a
conditions with their orders. We could not **
guarantee that express companies would car- a,
ry the goods. Our responsibility ceased when n
we deliver the goods to the Express office. B
We have left the type of message lockjed in $=
the form, and if anybody wants 500 or more J'
\ at 40 cents per hundred we can furnish the 81
\ pages as given in this sheet. &

Fourteen Paces.
We publish the Press and Banner this weel^ 5j
in fourteen pages?that amount of space be- C
ing necessary to give place to the advertise- ^
meets and reading matter. 5C
Owing to tbe large amount 01 mecnanicui c.
work involved in so large a paper, the editor
gave his personal attention to that depart. a,
ment, and has written very little for the pa- It
/ per this week. ?

Next Monday will be Sale Day. We will d
look lor you that day, to pay your subscrlp- et

The Legislature will likely go to work with
a will. The Governor asks them to do so.

Messrs. J. L. Tapgart and Thomas Chiles
went to the Flatwoeds hunting last week.
They killed 72. This is pretty good for amateurs.
d'
Some of our town farmers killed hogs last u"
* week. Mr. J. F. Clinkscales killed four that
netted him 1160 pounds. Judge Cook killed
one that netted him 305 pounds. A good
many more killed, but we did not learn the
weights. . D<
Mr. H. D. Pressly left for Florida last Ihurs- si
day. Troy is getting to be well represented so
in the Land of Flowers.
There will be preaching in the Associate 81
Reformed Presbyterian church next Thurs- D
day at half-past 11 o'clock. O.
Miss Laviola Keel will leave for Mexico
next Thursday to enter the missionary Held ac
from the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Li
church at this place. There will be a farewell
meeting in the church next Wednesday
night. May God bless this young lady in the
foreign fields.
Mr. T. M. Dendy is having him a nice office f
put in his store. He is a man of taste. 'a
Mr. J. H. Turner, of Edgefield county, Sc
moved in town last Thursday. He will open
out a first-class wacon and carriage shop
This is something Troy needs. Mr. Turner

There were seventy-flve tickets sold here for
AuguBta last Thursday.
We can hear of a good roaDy bogs dying.
Our advice Is to kill before they take sick. A f*
lean hog is better than no bog at all. "J:
Rev. J. M. Steadman will preach his farewell
sermon here next Sunday. We wish
Conference could send him back, but he has
Served his four years on this circuit.
Rev. R. F. Bradley was very sick last night, '
but be 1b much better this morning. t,
Some of our country friends came home j*
from the Expos!tlon on that midnight train ,
and walked home. We feel sure there were c,
enough horses In town that could have been tr
furnished wltli pleasure. p
Capt. J. H.Jones will leave for Florida to- ?
day. He will prospect for phosphate on the
Bradley estate down there. ^
Mrs. Jane M. Davis, mother of Mr. J. C. Da- *:c

A Cbrysantnemuin neuuiui;.
Od Wednesday morning, November 15th. bv
at Greenwood, 8. C., Mr. P. a. MeKellar of in
Bennettsvilleand Miss Annie Lltes McKeilar
were happily married. The ceremony took x!
place at the residence ot the bride's uocle, fe
Capt. Joel W. Lltes, in the presence of relatives
and many friends, and was performed
in a most impressive manner by Rev. E. J.
Forrester. The house was beautifully decorated
with chrysanthemums, pink and white x<
predominating. Promptly at eleven o'clock. j0
preceding the bride came Misses Kate and eri
Allie Watson, carrying a bunch of chrysan- 1
themams, separating and making room for ^
the bandseme couple who followed, taking j-j.
their position under a marriage yoke and
bell made of pink and white crysanthemums.
The lovely bride was attired in a becoming j0j
and elegant traveling costume of green, bear- ut
ing in her band chrysanthemums. After
ooDgratalations and the "sad good bye" were
said, the happy couple left on the 12.45 train
for Bennettsville, where an elegant reception
awaited them. ac
The presents were numerous ?uu
among which was a handsome watch and an
chain, the gift of the groom. The many
friends of the bride regret giving her up. and
heartily congratulate the groom on winning <
so fair a bride. May many years of happlnets ?3attend
them. Ca
