Better Facilities ? Increased Custom
In all Lines?Reasons for
Gratitnde.
The Press and Banner is now better prepared
for Job printing than ever before, and
the run of custom at our office was never as
good as it Is now.
Oar facilities are better than ever before
and we are doing touch work for customers
from a distance. Low prices and good work,
bring us ibecnstom,andon general principles
tbo people have been good to the Press and
Banner, standing by It under all clrcum- /
stances. Many of our subscribers have been f
with os for years, and may be depended upon
Id the future. Advertisers find it to their ln
terest to put their notices in the paper, and
the number of those who give us their job
printing Increases with the years. An over- r
ruling Providence has been good to us, and ^
we have every reason to think that tne world
has treated us with great kindness, for which
we give thanks with a grateful heart.
We Xever Sleep.
At night Id former years, the people of the
town of Abbeville, lay down to rest tn silence
and In darkness, with seldom a passer along
oar streets to break the solitude of the midnight
hours.
Bat, now all is changed. The streets are i
lighted, the oil mill Is lull of folk and Its I
whistle is beard at all times, the watchmen at '
the two depots are always awake, the nlgbt
policemen is ever on duty, the telegraphers at
both the G-, C. & N. depot and the train master's
office are never away from their places,
the shilling engine on the switches at the depot
and in the yard shops is ever busy, and "
the waking of relief trainmen, and the passing
of the news to and from the trnlns give to
the streets something of an air of life even Id 5
the otherwise silent watches of the nlgbt.
The changes herein recited would Indicate
that we have made progress within the last
few years.

Wben tbe report is sent from Abbeville as \

may explain that some eighteen or twenty
of the arrests In Abbeville were made one day
on aeoount of a base b?U riot among Degrees,
where whiskey was not in it.

/ that tbe dispensary is a vast improvement on
1 tbe lioense system.

We need a stana-pipe iuii 01 water, mo
rates of Insurance Is excessive. If the towd
would Incur the debt, or If private Individ,
nals would contribute the money, the investment
would be a good one. All property on
the public square Is assessed for insurance

Having- It HIn Own Way.
Senator Butler Is reported to have said that
> If bis friends allow him to conduct the cam- r
i palgn in bis own way, that be would bring a I
successful Isane. At present It seems that the
Senator?s friends will not Interfere with him,
but will allow him exclusive management
and control of it.
The Laundry.
Why can't Abbeville have a laundry? We
have the money, the men, the water, and the
linen. Then why not have the laundry?
There can be no doubt of the need for sucb an
imMt.nMAn and thn eont Is bnt little.
The addition of so many citizens will give
strength to all tbe churches In town. We believe
each church has received, or will receive,
accessions from the ranks of tbe railroad
folk.
