Changed the Subject.
Oneof the most difficult tilings to
do gracefully is to change the current
of unpleasant conversation, but the
small t>oy can do it if circumstances
make it neccessary.
"Thomas, will you please tell me
why you pulled up the onions from
my Danvers onion bed ? How many
times have I told you to keep away
from the garden?"
Thomas grew red in the face, and
his grandfather went on to depict the
evil fate that was sure to befall boys
who went around destroying what
their elders had planted. !
Meantime, Thomas had pulled himself
together, and as the harangue
was conclued he said, with a smile,
refering to ail event of the previous
week:
"Pity our old rooster died, wasn't
it, grandpa?"?Youth's Companion.
"I Wish I Was An Injnn.*'
"A six-year old boys first composition
on water. Water is good to drink, to
bathe in, and to skate on. When I
was a little baby, the nurse used to
bathe meevery morning in water. I
have been told that the Injuns don't
wash themselves once in ten years.
I wish I was an Injun !"?Our Dumb
Animals.
Don't fail to see the dress goods that I offer
