"I "Mysterion* Dispenindon of Provi- 1 tlcnce.'* Tlie Almighty when he breathed the breath of life Into man, also implanted in his system the seeds of death. In his wisdom and goodness, the Almighty allotted to man three score yearsand ten,and in special instances by reason of strength, life is extended beyond the allotted time, but . sooner or later, the seeds of death must germ- A loate and bring forth their legitimate result? S and every living creature must die. The Creator himself has made the decree from which there Is no appeal. _ But when ministers ot the gospel, in the w nineteenth century. In this age of reason, and " In the blaze of an enlighted Christian religion, solemnly announce from the pulpit that the death of the young is a dispensation of divine Providence?that the Almighty in nis wisuorn aua gooaness nas caiiea a caua or young person hence?we are amazed. Tbe Almighty does no such thing. Every child born of healthy parents has a right to expect to live to bis three score years and ten, and if the child dies in infancy, or in youth, or in manhood's strength, he goes hence because of some violation of the laws of Nature. The laws of Nature are Inexorable, and he who violates them must pay tbe penalty. In the death of tbe young we are furnished with the ino-t impressive lesson that can be presented to the living. And these Mileinn occasions should teach every living creuture the danger incident to the violation of the law* of health. Instead ol attrlbntlng the premature death of man to tbe act of the Almighty, we should prayerfully look to him for guidance, so that we may live according to the plan, and walk in the paths which he himself has prescribed for us. In our ignorance, and in our blindness, we fall victims to the "pestilence that walketh in ~1 darkness," or else the "destruction that jj wasteth at noon day" prematurely closes our careers. Even in the "cup of cold water," which may be given to loved ones "in the name of a disciple" may contain a deadly poison. When we know that the very air which we ni breathe may be laden with disease and death, X when we know that the water, which appears the purest and the best, may contain the mKUVt Kxfnnp npamnf.ilia /1/x gcuuiri nuivu unug jiicuiabutQ ucaiu, uw nc not trifle with a startling reality when we attribute the legitimate result of violated laws to the "dispensation of divine Providence?" Instead of slurring over an actual coudltion !! -that confronts us, the premature death of our friends 6hould teach us the Importance of studying the laws of health, and should impress upon us the fearful penalty of violating the mandates of Nature. | Instead of laying the blame on the Al- I mighty, the preacher should ask us to ques- I tlon ourselves as to our mode of living. He I should teach us to avoid the mistakes of oth- I ers, and set a light before our eyes that we may avoid the same rocks and the same breakers which have sent down to death many a life and many a ship as gallant as our own. Man is sent into the world to fulfill his mis- rF sion,anU his days are three score years and -* ten. *hl But 11 by reason of our own imprudence, or the mistakes of others, our lives are cut short, at we have no right to lay the blame on the Lord, but the lesson of such premature death CI should teach that we too may die prematurely,if we, either ignorantly or knowingly, violate the laws of health. ne TRIP TO FLORIDA. A Lady's Account of Her Journey to the Land of Flowers, 9111k and Honey. On September 28th, it was with rather a lingerlng feeling very much akin to regret, that one ot our party at least, bid adieu to friends 2 aud dear ones, who constantly remind us of "Home sweet Home." Alter traveling a short distance, we were fortunate in making tbe acquaintance of several, who were returning to their sunny homes, after spending quite a pleasant season amidst the rugged scenery of tbe Blue Ridge. Time passed as pleasantly as could be expected on such an occasion when the unpleasant news reached us, of a wreck which had occurred only a few miles below us. ne This marred our pleasant anticipations to a very great extent; for the rain whs pouring j In torrents, and the thoughts of having to transfer seemed anything but what we would mosttancy. Still it recalled to memory our youthful days when plodding through mud and water would have been the zenith of our glory. However, after being delayed several hours, and passing through this unpleasant m< ordeal, we were once more prepared to under- (jt take the remaining portion of our Journey. At half past two o'clock we arrived at Augusta. There our pleasant little bund of so 4 short an acquaintance was forced to separate, having missed connection with the Savannah train the only resort was to seek lodging where it might be found at that late hour : for it seemed as if tbe elty was somewhat crowded; as accommodations were obtained m( after enquiring at seyeral hotels. Only a few hours rest could be taken by " those expecting to go by way of Savannah ; while tbe others remained over to go by Ma- a con. At eleven o'clock a. m., we boarded the Ueorgla train for Macon. On leaving Augusta we found we had again, met with others enroute to Lake City. Two of tbe young ladies were on their way to Tampa, expecting at an early date to take m* charge of schools, wblch they had procured, th Indeed we were a band of teachers, and, "as birds of a feather will flock together," it is t useless to state, that we had a pleasant company. Without any disparaging oration? he can be given a very graphic sketch of the country lying between Augusta and Macon, Judging from the general appearance that greeted the eyes of the passer-by the thought rather suggested Itself to us, that the coun- m< try was In a fine condition. However, the ed fields not unlike those to be found in many parts of South Carolina bore a resemblance of an unproductive year. Still the towns varying in size, which dotted the railroad every few miles reminded us pe of thrifty thorough-going people. Our train drew into Macon at four o'clock p. m. There we eDjoyed a recreation of a few hours after our day's travel. After going over different Darts of the city, and wbillng away as we termed it, the monotonous hours, we again assembled at < our post, awaiting the outgoing of our train. At 8:20 o'clock p. m., we rolled out from Macon. And as we were wrapped in the arms X of darkness so far as sight seeing was concerned, we were forced rather reluctantly to turn our attention toother pass-time amusements. Within a few hours travel, all except our little band, apparently, seemed to ue locked in the arms of Morpheus. However, it was impossible for us in our frame of mind to let quietness reign supreme. We would by no means be giving justice to J{ our notes if we failed to make mention of the extreme kindness shone to us by the conductor. Surely our questions were sufficient to exhaust an average man's patience, but he pleasantly gave all information requested. At last, the pleasant, still what proved to be a weary nights Journey revile of the darkest hours to us at Valdosta, Ga. Here we t were told that Valdosta wns one of the gar- J? den spots of Georgia. The train stopped only a few minutes, and alter recruiting the number of passengers by the addition of one or two "teachers" and some others, we soon t lound ourselves bounding towards our win- J. ter home. Within a few minutes traveling, dawn revealed the sunny land to us just beyond the Suwanee river. After surveying N< the surroundings we could readily recall and th appreciate the old familiar song "Way down 1n upon tbe Suwanee River". Just beyond the river, we had a splendid view of the valley? cei a log cabin here and there Inhabited by a tal people perfectly contented with their lot, together with the lakes which dotted the valley, made a picture of rustic beauty. Now and then can be seen small patches of corn together with the turpentine farms which seems to be their chief subsistence. The , question that was once propounded was : *" How will these people subsist, when turpen- l tine stills and goffers give out? Our itnag- of lnations were soon ended when a hearty response came from a venerable old gentleman. sa' With the continual cultivations of cotton, boi together with a few new platforms and sub- or. treasury bills, I, for one, lear the farmers of F South Carol In a will be forced to seek tbe Pa; wholesome climate ol the suwanee Vallev.
