Pleasant Party.
A pleasant social party was given by Mr.
Robert Wilson ai his home near Abbeville on
last Wednesday evening. The Misses Wilson,
the accomplished daughiers of the host, made
it exceedingly pleasant for the guests. It was
a delightful occasion and every one seemed to

Mr. Doc.Jones, a well known citizen of
Mount C&rmel neighborhood, died last.Monduy
night of pneumonia. He was taken sick I
In the Christmas holidays. He was about!
fifty years ol age, the lather of a large family,

Mr. Jones was perhaps tbe best vlolonlst
in Abbeville comity, aud by his skill aud accommodating
spirit bus glveu great pleasure
to our people on many occasion*. He w,is a
good citizen, and bis friends in Abbeville
will be sorry to learn of his death.

Mr. A. W. Jones left Abbeville yesterday to
assume the duties of bis new office in BeauTort.
He lias received tbe office of phosphate
commissioner, and bence resigned tbe office
of Auditor, which he has tilled for several
years with great fidelity to the public Interest
Mr. Joues will do bis whole duty in bis new
office, and will prove tbe wisdom of his up

home next Fall, where he will bold office for

Senator Hemphill's understanding of the

We presume there Is no doubt thut the
Columola and Grteu vllle Railroad Company
will build a side track to tne oil mill, and
will put up a passenger depot, which will be
more conveniently located than the present
Inaccessible office.

Victim of Whlnkejr.
We Learn that a son of Mr. Samuel Wilson
and a sou of a neighbor drank freely of whiskey
last Saturday. Mr. Wilson's son died
Sunday morning. The other made a narrow
escape. They were mere children, only some
seven or nine years ot age,{and knew not the
daug?r to which they were exposing themsdlves.
Will Shut Down.
The Oil Mill has seed enough to last only
ten days longer. If more seed cannot be had
before the expiration of that time, the mill
will sbnt down on that date.
Those of our citizens who have seed to sell,
should look alter the matter ut once, lithe
mill shuts down and discharges the operatives,
they will ouy no more seed this season.
Railroad Official*.
Mr. Robert W. Hunt, traveling agent of the
Port Royal and Western Carolina Railway,
called at our office one day lant week in the
interest of his line of road. He has raude all
the necessary arrangements for transporting
a great company 10 Augusta, during the carnival,
which comes off tiiia week.

The Pent-ion Board for Abbeville county
met last Monday in Dr. G. A. Neuffer's office,
and continaed all the old pensioner* on the
roll.
They Board will meet Rale Day in February
to consider new applications for pensions.

The Boat Papers.
We learn that the Solicitor said that Colonel
Wardlaw's papers were the best Coroner's
papers that had b?-en filed In his circuit. It
i*|also said that Mr. Mansfield Halllngsworth's
papers were first class.

Ilia Forty-Elghth Year.
Mr. W. H. Brooks called yesterday and paid
his forty-eighth year's subscription to the
Press and Banner. He has been a friend
during all the varying scenes through which
we have passed.

Dr. W. E. Link was the first man to call on
ns last Monday morning. He came before we
were out of bed, and brought good luck, or
was the forerunner of a good day for the Press
and Banner.

Mr. J. c. Porn was in Abbeville a few
