The Court room was fairly till- ( ?il with people from town and country. The , County Chairman. Mr. lienet, presided, and j introduced tlie speakers in a very pleasant | manner. The first speaker was Hon. R. W.! Simpson, of Anderson county, who discussed , the taritr, the Blair hill, the silver coinage, the 11 civil service, and oilier matters for something like an hour. The next speaker, Hon. James 1 X. Lipscomb, followed In a speech of perhaps ' an hour's length, delivered in his usual fore I- ! ble manner. He like his predecessor, discussed national issues, and pledged himself as an j ] advocate of any measure looking to the good 11 of the people. Hon. It. \V. Simpson stated in behalf of | Hon. George Johnstone, that he was sutrer- j ing from sore throat, which fact together with telegram from home, had made it impossible for liim to he here ou that day. ("ason, Es?j., for 1 the benefit of their creditors. Wo have not been able to learn the liabilities and assets, ; bat presume the liabilities arc not much in j excess of the assets. A. J. Salinas A- Son., of Charleston, are the chief creditors, and we , believe they are very well secured. The fail- , urc of this firm is to be regretted. They are * most excellent young men, of good habits and much energy. A host of trienUs regret to * see their doors closed.and extend good wishes I in their hour of trouble, being men of strict integrity, and thoroughly competent and en- n ergetic, they will rise again, and are sure to s succeed in life. TCll Stark, a colored man from the Saluda Bide of the county, was in town last Monday, looking for his creditor. Ho says he will m ike plenty of cotton to pay all of his debts. He owns a good farm, but was compelled to mortgage it la?a fall for a considerable debt, and t'ie purchase of a mule, but be will lift. 1 be mortgage before Christ inns. Litrs iionored us by a call last Monday. He was lately elected County Commissioner at the head of the ticket, and he seems to appreciate the very complimentary vote which he got. That vote was largely due to the old soldiers in different parts of the county who knew him so well, and who had such a hiuh appreciation of his character. MK. Sami'KI. Evans's cotton is nearly ruined by the hall on Tuesday ot last week. The windows were ba lly broken. Four trees were blown down in front of his house.
