Judge Benuett, of Massachusetts, gives thd following on this point: "A deed conveys the fence standing on the farm, the fencing .-? stuff, posts, rails, etc., which had been once < used In the fence, but had been taken down nlled up for future use again In the same place. Bui new fence material, Just bought , ' and never attached to the soil, will not pasi; Standing trees pussasa part ol the land; so do trees blow or cut down and still left in tbo ^ y\'A woods where tbfty fall but not if cut and cordcd up for sale; the wood has then become per- 'a sonal property. Manure in .the barn jbra or . in a compact heap ready for Immediate tiset the buyer, ordinarily takes as belonging to the farm; thoush it might not be so If the owner had previously sold It to some other party and had collected It In a heap by itself. ' ^ Growing crops pass by the deed of farm, un^ less they are expressly reserved, and when It ' ,'"1 Is Intended to reserve those it should be so v. jj stated In the deed itself; a mere oral agreement would not be valid In law. Any other mode is to stipulate that possession is not to be given untlf some luture day, in which case the crops or manure may be removed before ; that time. As to the buildings on the farm, v >1 though generally mentioned in the deed, It 13 , '/ not absolutely necessary they should be. A deed of land ordinarily carries all the build- ings on it belonging to the grantor, whether ^ mentioned or not; and this rule includes the ' K," lumber and timber of any old building which has been taken or blown down and been packed away for future use on the farm. But -A if there be any buildings on the farm built by some third persons, with the farmer's leave, -,Pig the deed would not convey these, Bince the . "V if. buildings are personal property and do not belong to the laud owner to convey. The real owners thereof might move them off, although the purchaser of the farm supposed --^3 he was buying and paying for all the bulljtv "' ings on it. His only remedy in such A cas^. would be against the party selling the pre- , 'fi rnlscs. As a part of the buildings conveyed, the window blinds are included, even If they. be at the time taken oft and carried to th attached or fitted to It. Good Points of Shorthorn Cattle* Northern Tier Gazctla. What constitutes the superiority of the wS shorthorn? It is the best general purpose ..-'si breed; the best combined machine with which to convert grass hay and grain, as well ./'* as all the coarse products of the farm, into beef and millc. its line, compact iorm ana mild, quiet disposition enable It to take on 1 growth and flesh and produce milk with but little waste. With its long, well-l-ounded * body, its broad, level loins, its full-fleshed, heavy hind quarters and its fine, small head and neck, it will give to the butcher a much larger portion of valuable meat than the light- ,'rquartered, narrow-backed, heavy-necked, flat* '; ribbed, coarse-boned and big-bellied native. It Is poor encouragement In this section of hl^h-prlced land for the stock-grower fo feed ">.q his fine hay and grain to an animal that, from J its nervous, restless temperament, will waste much of it In useless action instead Of quietly . . > 4* converting it into valuable beet or milkk And it is equally discouraging to feed fof tho worth of a beef that, when dressed, will only produce about fifty pounds to the hundred live weight ot meat that is chiefly coarse {] and unsalable. These are some of the reasons ' '3 why the butcher pays one cent or two cents : . ^3 per pound, live weight, more for a model shorthorn than for the native or other un? % 'V.* shapely breeds. Some persons except that b'ood alone, with- . \l out regard to food and surroundings, will in- ' sure success. The chief advantage in improved blood is to enable the stockman to reap more profitable rewards for his labor and capital invested, where a reasonable amount of ,<* are with liberal feeding is to be given. It is % ^ the surplus feed over and above what Is re- quired to sustain life that gives the profit. ^ And the more the surplus the more profit, where beef or milk production Is sough for, until the extent of the assimilative powers is nearly reached. Plenty of wholesome food is absolutely necessary to profitable results, wliPf.hpr for milk or beef, with any stock ot any breed, and a reasonable amount of exercise for all breeding animals. * . ? Importance of Bee-Cnllure. Prof. A. J. Cook, of Michigan, says plants pour out their nectar as a sort of free eotlce or . lunch to attract bees and other insects the most Important work in vegetable economy, the work of fertilization, which largely depends upon insects, and without which full fruitage is Impossible. The simple work of gathering nectar then is indirectly of great economic Importance. This neclur, which the bees convert into honey, would bo wholly lost without them. Only the honey-bees are abundnut early in the season, and th*y alone save this valuable food element for man's good. The activity of bees is wonderful. By actual observation single flowers are some* limes visited by bcrs fifty times a day, and bees have been seen to visit over twenty flow- . era a minutes. L. 0. Hoot, of Mohawk, N. V., extracted pounds of honey on July 2-*, L collected from bass wood, which had all been .r.ittmroil hi.' furl v pnlnntrts of hops In Ilistsev^n ''i days. This is over 100 pounds per colony, and Hie daily stores of each colony exccedeu four- *7 teen pounds. During the same time there was secured at Michigan College nearly half as much beautiful comb-honey from single colonies. An excellent Michigan farmer. who has kept bees six or seven years, anu 1 who for the last three years has had from sixty to eighty colonies, reports the cash receipts from these bees during esich of the last three years to exceed those of the entire balance of his farm. More Fruit, Petersburg Index-Appeal. In the line of fruits of all kinds the Southern States present peculiar and great advantages for successful and profitable production. We could grow fifty times the fruit that we do. Not one family in a hundred consume a tithe of the fruit that they should. In some form it should be upon the tables of All our people in towaaml country daily. Dried fruit, chu? ncd fruit and green fruit should be a unlver* sal diet, in one or more of these forms at least, everywhere and at all times. ' Hut is it so? How many farmers even havo put away a supply of apples for the winter; and how many housewives have dried and * canned peaches and apples enough to serva - ?- - ? ftlA rvcn uir i mi min inifxmo ui...i,e ...v winter? As a rule, fruit, especially green fruit, is (lie exception in the country from now on til! summer again. This ought not to be so. There is health in fruit, health and good living to the family that consumes it regularly and often. There is pleasure and respectability in fruit, contentment for tho little folks and joy to the old. And there is money in fruit. It will pay. As a crop it pays better than any other on the farm. We need more fruit, and the far-seeing are going to have it. The times are hard. There is no doubt about tuat, but the man thai is out of debt should not complain. The soil will respond to intelligent, timely labor and give food for both man and beast. The purchasing power of adollar is much greater than it was a few years ago. The times demand economy and constant attention to your business. B<'gin your next year's work the first day of Jannary and do not slack up for cold, heat, rain, fun. or anything else. Pluck and economy will pull you through even these times. m*l C A117 one desirous of getting something nice, pretty and cheap in the millinery line should give us a call before first January.
