Walker nnd Mowry have been \ zealous in their behalf, and the controversy has waxed so warm, as even to engage Congressman Dlbbio and Mayor Courtenay in a most undignified personal dispute, as I be direct fruit of this unwillingness of either Walker or Mowry to sacrifice their personal pride, nnd subordinate their own interests for tho public good, we are threatened with the retention of the present Republican Collector, and Are observe that that marplot Lem Guffln hns ; been congratulated on his advancement with increased pay. Now, as a citizen of Abbeville, knowing Guffln and his antecedents, I protest against this selfishness of the gentlemen who will yield nothing, but desire the gratl-! flcatlon of their own selfish ends.
