In talking of the railroad tax. it may be
paid that some people a fleet to sneerat. the
mite which the imi?*cunious e!tl/.cn would tie
mulcted for in the levy of the railroad tax.
This Is all wrong. The rich man can pay his
bundled dollars easy enough, and be thereby
deprived of no necessary comfort or desired
luxury, but the poor man who has only a .
small amount to pay, may be thereby deprived
of bread or meat for a day. The poor man's
liickie is just as sacred as the rich man's dollar?however
much the rich may sneer at his
neighbor's poverty.

It is hut natural to expect those who are lo- s

they cun tojret others to come in also, but- in j r
our advocacy of (ireenwood. as the place for
business men to locate we believe we are sup- \
ported by something far more substantial v
than this natural inclination common to ell- j I
i/.ens of every town. We have as pleasant r
and healthy location as can be found any- |j
where in the Piedmont region, and we can
soon h<>asl of a first-class college. As for our v
freights there is none better, few as good in r
the Slate, Urnntlng that Lauicns, tJreen-!

lone, have the same rate that w - have en- j i;
Joyed for the la-t two years, we still claim to
nlrer derided advantages lo those who want is
to embark in business. Inasmuch as we have I a
a larger and more t'ert tie scope of country to n
support us with less than one tenth as many j i
persons engasjed in business. There are oilier j s
very importat considerations, which space
will not allow us to nicniion. There can be t
no doubt that tanners and merchants as well, a
u:e. throughout this whole section much bet-1 h
leroir linancially than in former years, It is d
true there is much scarcity of money Jiist'e
now, but that Is because every planter has a
made an effort to pay cash for supplies upon
which to make the present crop. This fact n
warrants us in expecting better times tills t
