Tho Dalian Factory on Little River near i
Mct'ormlek, which whh burnt in March, |
1*453, is now being rebuilt. The house,1
which is 80 by 30 feet is nearly completed.
Tho old water wheel, which is a tur-i
Tjine, remained uninjured, and will drive !
the new machinery, which is being re- {
ceived on the ground. The shaftings, J
gearing and hangers were received last>
Monday. The spinning frames, spool
frames and speeder, ami drawing frames
and four sets of cords were shipped from
Philadelphia last Monday was a week
ago. This factory will spin thread and
will employ about ton hands, and use
about a haie af cotton a day. The proprietors
of this factory are Messrs. El- j

Corpse Floating iu Little River. I
I>a?t Sunday while Litttle Kiver was!
much swollen persons at Calhoun's Mills)
saw something floating down the stream,:
Which attracted so much attention that
Venturesome parties embarked in a bat-1
teau to see what it might be. It was dis-1
(covered to be the body of a while child
supposed to be about eight or ten years of ;
age, but owing to the high water and the :
swiftness and roughness of the current!
and the fact that the colored men who
went out were aomeweat superstitious i
about taking charge of the body, it pass- I
ed on down the river.
Last week we were honored by calls'

the hardest workers and the printer of i1

Value. If ho hires bauds to wield the !
cradle and bind the aheaf, he will wish j
the army worm had struck his place!
when he* tries to feed a score or so of labors
at high twelve of the clock.
Mr. John \V. Sign, of this town, it is
conceded, has one of the finest Jersey'
cows in the State. He has the best ar- 1
ranged barn and dairv or milk house that "
\ve have ever seen. His milk vessels are! t
kept in a brick basin, which is arched f<

Iw some sections the oat crops are,n
good, but upon an average, they are not I v
abundant. It is thought by observant'?
citizens that there will be none of this t ^
grain which should be shipped. It will, w
f?e required to feed stock and to seed the;
ground for another crop. The price |
which the merchants will he enabled to ",
offer will not be an inducement t*? sell,
now. Our needy neighbors will pay a, a
better ptice for the oats at sowing time. | o:
Rkv. and Mrs. R. W. Skymour of
Laurens county, visited their old home1 ti
last week. They seem delighted with! h
the new location in Laurens county. Mr. i
Sevinour has received a present of a lot "
i in'the new town of Waterloo on the *
Greenwood and Laurens Kailroad, and i
XVill build a dwelling house on it. By "
the death or his father Mr. Seymour has a"
recently fallen heir to a considerable es- jj
tale, which will be realised next Fall or g.
subsequently. j ol
Therr is great activity on the farms, i
The continued rains and the gathering ofi
the crops of small grain have kept the!
farmers out of their cotton and corn, and i
as a consequence, all hands are actively ^
and earnestly at work killing grass, thln-iA
ning cotton and corn, and planting their!
late corn. Tuose who plant their stubble j
Ixnd have no Litno for anythiug else than

The colored people have reaped a harvest
by reaping other people's small '
grain. Now the grain thresher is abroad !
in the land, and the shrill whistle of the i
engine is to be heard on every hill. ,
Capt. Carwile's reaper struck a ]
stump which was obscured by the surrounding
grain, and a wheel went to flin- '

mend the broken part.
Next week is Commencement week at 1

is laid out. Of course everybody
from Abbeville will go.
