Lost His Raliince.
\t Mr. A. \V. Jonos in rotnrniivr to Al>\
lieviile nn the train last Monitor after- ,
noon met with a very serious accident !?y
* which he came near losing hi? life. lis- j
cause of the over-heated condition of the

catch a whitl' of fresh air. The wind
ldew his hat off his head, and in the of
fort to eateh it M r. Jones lost his balance,
and fell upon the track, badlv bniisinir
himself in several places. The fact of
his having fallen off was not known on
the car. which came on to Abbeville I
without him. For a while after the tall [
Mr. Jones was unconscious. After the'
return of consciousness, he applied to,
Mr. Fleming, who lives near bv, fori
transportation to the village, which was |
kindly furnished. We congratulate Mr.
Tones on his escape from nore serious j
injuries.
The Literary Club.
The Literary Club met last Friday j
niirht at the residence of L. "V. IVrrin,}
Ksq., I>r. H. D. Wilson. President pro!
trm. and L. W. .Smith. Ksq., Secretary,
protein. r. Hugh Wilson read an es-;(
say on "Marriage and Divorce," takin^l'
ground against divorce for any cause, j
holdinsr that divorce could only bede-i!
moralizing, and incidentally expressing j,
the opinion that polvsramv was not near i
so irreat an evil, as divorce, as practiced ji
in this Country. A very general discus-1
sion ensued, in which nearly all thej
members expressed unqualified opnosi- |
tion to divorce, while some thonsrht there <
might be particular instances in which '
divorce could be very properly granted.

As is Ids custom Mr. J. 11. Hoire-s huntr i

alone is rather poor diet, lie wants thej
N man who carried it awav to com" back to L

llour, cheese, lard and butter to eat with j'
the ham. Rogers is a good man, and ;

very close attention to business. The I
very short cotton cr<>|? leaves the mass oi !
our people with empty pockot books, and
they start in to do a venr's work with a

not like to press his claims. For this
reason all should be .scrupulously careful
