Borax and Cleansing Blankets. ,
?The following is a good method
of cleansing blankets: Put two
large teaspoonsful of borax and a pint
bowl of soft soap into a tub ofj
cold water. When dissolved, put j J
in a pair of blankets, and let them j
remain over night. Next day rub
and drain them out, and rinse thoroughly
in two waters, and hang <
them to dry. Do not wring them, j
Hut this is not the only domestic
use to which borax may be put.

human beings, it is much to be preferred
for this purpose to the poisonous

Borax is valuable for the laundry;
use 1 lb. to about ten gallons of
boiling water, and you need only
one-half the ordinary allowance of

soap. JF or Jaces, camurics, eiu.,
use all extra quantity of powder.
It will not injure ilie texture of "
the cloth in the least. For cleansing
the hair, nothing is better than \
a solution of borax water. "Wash
afterwards with pure water if it
leaves the hair too stiff. Borax dissolved
in water is also an excellent _
dentrifrice, or tooth wash. J

AN ACT to Regulate the Publica
iion of all Legal and Public Notices.
Skctiox 1. l>e it enacted by the Penate
and House of llepresenfatives of the
State of South Carolina, now met and
sitting in General Assembly, and by the
authority of the same, It shall be the
duty of the Attorney General, the Comptroller
General, and by the Secretary .c
State, conjointly, to designate, by public
notice [in] on?or more newspapers
in this State, in which all legal notices,
advertisements, or publications for the
State, of any ami every character required
hy law to be made public, shall be
published; and said Attorney General,
Comptroller General, and Secretary of
.Slate, shall have power to uiake such
changes and new designations, from
time to time, as tliey may judge that
the public interest requires.
Shc. 2. All State and County Officers,
and other persons are hereby required
to furnish to the newspapers designated
um'er this Act, for the State and for the
representative counties, for publication,
all legal notices, advertisements and
publications, of any and every character
required by law to'be made public; and
no legal notice, advertisement or puoncatiori
required bylaw to be matfe pub.lic
shall have any valid force or effect
unless published in thene\vf?papcrsdesignated'utider
tlifs Act; "and* no publication,
of ailj* character iri any newupa-'
per not designated under this Act/shall
bo paid for from the fundsof this Htate,
or of any County; Provided, That the
said officers mentioned in Section one

Directors, the Interest Coupons of
I the State guaranteed bonds and of such
' other bonds of this company as are regularly
recorded in the oiliee of the company,
matured between the first day of
January, 1872, and tho first day of July,
1873, both inclusive, will be funded in
bonds having ten years to run, as provided
for in the company's proposals to
' the bondholders of date ol August 11,
1873. Holders of the above obligations
are requested to send in a statement of
' them to this otHce, to facilitate the exchange,
which it is desired to complete
