Exhibition of tlio Ninety-Six Academy.

Our place was unusually lively
On the 7th instant, caused by .the
throng of visitors to the exhibition
of the .Ninety-Six Academy under
the management of J. K. Jblake,
A. B. At an early hour the liall
was packed to its utmost capacity.
The exercises were opened wuii
prayer by the Rev. Mr. Alexander,
of JBTorth Carolina, followed by the
able and learned discourse of Prof.
Hood, who was orator of the day. '
Next followed the declamations of
the boys, the rehearsals ot the little
srirls and the essays of the (
^onng ladies, all of which showed
careful traiuing and discipline. Mr. (
Bi&ke has taken a strong hold on (
tfee affections of the people of our
V&qge as a teacher, fo^his energy *
Wftd thoroughness. At 1 o'clock
there was a recess of one hour "
when refreshments were served a la ^
$>ic?nic. The exercises were inter- 'J
spersed with excellent music by 1
Prof. Schmitt and daughter, assist- ^
ed by Messrs. Fowler, Branch and 1
Trowbridge, of Abbeville. The
band were loudly applauded at the v

On Friday evening, the 8th, the
ladies of Siloam church gave an 1

entertainment, consisting of music, I]
{(vocal and instrumental) and re- 11
freshments. The music was truly s
splendid ; the young ladies brought
the house down at every attempt. ?
In this connection we desire to

Pheenix, aud the Misses Lfland of *

The concert was well attended, 81

for school purposes.
The chairman of the Board ex- filbited
his report, which showed
that drafts had been drawn in 1873, on
the County Treasures for twelve
hundred "bud fifty-nine dollars

($1,259). The chairman also sub- B
mitted a list (furnished him, he K
said, by the County Treasurer,) of ^
claims paid by the latter in 1873, e
' amounting to two thousand aud
eighteen dollars and twenty-five
cents (2,018.25.)
These exhibits were examined tl
and discussed by both white and
colored, and after investigation, it J

Resolved, That from the state- ,
ment made by the chairman of the *
Board of School Trustees of this
Township, that the sum of eight
hundred and fifty-two dollars and ^
eighty cents ($852.80) of the tax
appropriated for 1873 has been
applied by the County Treasurer j
to the payment of previous claims. B
It.is the sense of this meeting that *

by law. j

The examination and burbecue at
St. Charlotte, in Bordeaux Town-;
ghip, was a success The children
did well, and reflected much credit .
jipon the teacher. Every thing <
passed off quietly. One or two
speeches were made. . The School
Commissioner of Abbeville County
made a short address. The Abbeville
Brass Band was prea^pt on
the occasion, and gave some fine
music. The grand success of Bordeaux
should stimulate all schools,
white and colored, to follow their
exAJnple, both in education and
barbecues.
