TRIBUTE OF RESPECT. t At a. special meeting of tbo Mill i J "Way Grange Patrons of Husbandry ir. No. 23, held on the 14th inst., theic following was unanimously adopted : * Death is at all times and under all Is circumstances an unwelcome visitor. Is IP-.. A.,.1 1 ... .. ! I vj ortu ? nun *? u sex- mi: t:rauie jv l-obbed of-its loveliness, or the gray!5 haired sire of lour score, after a 1 long and useful life, calmly and se- i reoelv folding his hands in the embrace of death ; but we are filled with grief inexpressible when we sec his j icy hand laid upon one in the midst of his useful labors of head and heart; ^ one whom we all delighted to honor 1 and reverence; one in whoso judg- ? ment we confided; one who had n stampod upon all his actions thetsig- v net of nature's nobleman. "An lion- t est man, the noblest work of God." 1 Such retioiUions naturally suggest } themselves as we cafm-ly look back ever the life of our honorable and honored worthy Past Master Dr. JOHN WA RDLA\V HEARST, lie J was known to all of us, born, reared, (| lived and died among us?but he is s gone, and wo shall no n ore see bis open countenance pnu manly rorm ? no more listen to his words of counsel; but he has left a bright example, I and let us be thankful that we came o in contact with such a man, and let [ his deeds of kindness and works of 1 love be continually before us. stimulating us to follow his noble example. That whilo we as a Grange bow sub- |] missively at this mysterious Provi- v dence still wo are unwilling for it to r pass by without somo manifestation on oar part. Therefore, be it Resolved> . , V 1st, That in the death of out- , Worthy Post Master Dr. JOHN "WARDLAW Il-EARST, our District c and State has been robbed of one ol 0 our most useful citizens- -virtue and a Christianity of ohe of its bright and t shining lights. d 2d, That in the death of onr Wor- 1, thy- Past. They recommend that there be paid, to Major Louis Merrill, for forty seven convictions, at ?200 each, ?9,400; accomplices, forty, at $200 each, $8,000 ; total, 1 ?17,4^0; to Mr. Thomas M. There were sixteen deaths from ] cholera yesterday. The best in- \ formed thought the epidemic was < abating yesterday afternoon; but J the same persous now think it is j spreading. The papers keep as quiet as possible on the subject, and there seems to be a general dispo- < sition in the city to suppress the facts. The true state of affairs can i only be ascertained by personal ob- J servation. ^The weatLer continues wet and disagreeable. Memphis, June 12.?The cholera < excitement is abating. Abstinence from stale vegetables has undonbt- ( edly bad a tendency to decrease the mortuary -reports, as there were only nineteen interments to-day 1 from all diseases, against twenty- ' four yesterday. i Laurens & Asheville Railroad.
