FARMING AT LEVEL LAND. ?3Ve publish below the followin letter from au old subscriber, whic though not intended for publicatio contains some practical suggestion which may be useful: Level Land, April 16th, 1873. Editor Abbeville Press and Banner: Your circular was duly receive and I will settle my past in debtee ness for your paper as soon as can. I was not joking when I ii vited you a short time since, t como and see me, and I still coi t'nue the invitation. I can tak care of you wheu*you stay, and am sure that you will be plcasci when you go away. I am no\ plowing every day with a two-hors turn plow, rolling up the earth t the depth of eight or ten inches and though it stiffens my finger too much to write, I cannot with hold an idea or two on model farm insr. A model farmer is one \vh< can make one hundred bushels o corn, fifty bushels of wheat, an< five thousand pounds of seedcottoi to the acre. This can be don with proper labor at but little ex pease. Bat a mo lei farmer or j model plow-boy I have yet to meet I offered two young men all th;. they could make on ten acres pro vidcd they would work no when else, but they refused unless ! would ensure the land to product as much as stated above. Keith e tUm? riicrj f fiirni+hirtii the corn, and giving them the meat I assured them that ten bushels ol corn would convert a pig in ten or twelve months, into a hog weigh ing two hundred and fifty pounds. This I have djue myself, and Lave found it a delightful employ ment. This is better than idleness, but idleness is the sin* of the day An article on m )del idleness, I think, would not be out of place. Bat I am getting sleepy, though it is only dinner time, and for fear ol gettinginto bad habits I will hitch up my two mules and go to plow ing agaiu. Perhaps 'I can settle my account wun you uy uarwnug some of my surplus produce, if su jilease let me know. Your obedient, JOHX F. CLIXESCALES. o? Arrest of a County Treasur er.?Advices from Greenville are to the effect that County Treasurer James M. Allen bus been arrested and placed in jail, on the charge ol "being a defaulter to the extent oi ?C0,"00. Under the statute, this i<! not a bailaale offence. It appears that State Treasurer Cardozo hav ing drawn upon C- unty Treasurei Allen for $30,000, and the draft not being honored,"he sent up one oi Lis clerks, to effect au arrange mem and secure a settlement, with i warrant of arrest, in case payment was not made. .Treasurer AI let: having refused to settle, according to the orders of State Treasure] ho u*n? immediately ar rested and lodged in jail. The friends of the alleged defaulting Treasurer assert that he has unpaic claims to a large amount agains1 the State, and refuses to pay ovei the funds in his hands until he i: made secure in the payment of hi; claims.?Phoenix.
