The Cooking Stove, Tho cooking Stove, from the im portant relation it beat's to the every day requirements of life, and upon which depends in so great a decree the convenience comfort anhajjiness of every family, may be truly consid ered the most valuable of all mcchan ioal constructions for domestic use. While the highly improvod articles of to-day bear but a remoto resemblance to the first crude stoves which glad dened the house-wife's heart, and many of them contain points of in disputable merit, the one to which we call the attention of our readers Beoms to us to combine in ono utensii all the meritous points of every other 6tove. By its use economy of fuel, regularity and rapidity of baking, uniformity of heat in the various chambers, durability bej-ond any other stove in the market, are all attained* See advertisement on the fourth page, giving the certificates of va i-ious purchasers, as to the merits of the Culver Stoves. . African Colonization. The steamship St. Salvador has ar rived in New York with 150 colored Georgians on board from Savanah. The Secretary of the American Colo nization Society was interviewed by a reporter of the Herald, and furnished some interesting information: "The colonization of Liberia," he eaid, "commenced with the founding of the organization in 1816 in Wash ington city. Afterwards explorers were Bent out, who purchased territo ry; but the Repnblic was not founded until 1820, Liberia continued under the control of the Colonization Socie ty until 1847, when it declared itself a free, sovereign, independent Repub lic, and has since been acknowledged as such by the leading Powers of the world. The society has sent emi grants thither every year since 1820, The Republic contains half a milliou of inhabitants; has about fifty churches, with schools attached, and a college attended by fifty students The American government maintains # Ka>*a a aii T? Liberia owns a coastwise ter ritory, of some fire hundred miles, and as a IlepuBlic, free and independent, has been the great means of breaking up the slave.trade by planting settle ments along the coasts, so that the only slaves now being shipped from Africa arc those belonging to the cast coast, whom Dr. Livingstone has been pleading so zealously for. The preseut expedition to Liberia will be on the bark Jasper, of the Yates & Porterfiold Company, who bavo made every desirable provision and accommodation for the transfer of the cmigjants. One hundred and fifty colored passengers in all came by the steamship St. Salvador. They are from various parts of Georgia, and nearljr all in families. Almost all of them are fairly educated and bi ought up tolerably wall in the tenets of the Methodist and Baptist Churches. These are only the advanced guard of a little army of moro than three thousand colored Georgians, who wish to go to African soil and build up a negro republic there, which shall be said to have sprung from the freedom of the South. On landing they will be placed under the care of Air. H. W. Dennis, tho society's agent, who is also Secretary of the Treasury of Li beria. Rev. John Orcutt, D.
