Be it enacted by the Sen ate and House of Representatives of the State ofSouth Carolina, now met and sitting in General-Assembly, and by the authority of the same: That on and after the passage of this Act, it shall be competent for the parties, Jygeinafternamed, to establish aiid con Btruct'a good and substantial Causeway acrosg ,Big Saltkahatchie Swamp, at Walnut Point, iconnecting the counties of Colleton and Beaufort. 2. Tha? the Causeway hereby au thorized to be established, be, and the Crested Jq C. F.-Petit, G. W. Pet v,-'*-it, John Burnett, and -Win.. Nettles, and -their associates and successors, for the '? v ." That it shall bo the dutjv and it i9 hereby made one of the provisions of this charter, that the Causeway here in contemplated to be established shall be constructed within twelve months from the passage of this Act; shall be built of good and sound material, and always be kept in good repair, ami shall be, when constructed, at least twelve (12) inches above tidewater, and its abutments be of such a character as to resist, in the event of a freshet, its being washed Away; and for the better carry ing out of this provision, it is hereby made the duty of the Commissioners of Iioads of the counties, heretofore named, to inspect said Causeway in course of construction, and after completion, and see that the foregoing specfiied require ments be complied with.
