I FINANCIAL CONDITION OF ( COUNTY.. > The Board was Five Thousand Dollars In debt, from the previous year, and the ' late Treasurer reports about Five Thou( saud Dollars lost, which will make the indebtedness of the County, Ten Thou' sand Dollars, and the Board recommend . that a tax of live mills on the dollar bo levied for the purpose of paying this dei I'.eiency and of'meeting the ourrcnt ex -_i ! penses of the County. -T - V The Board iinds it impossible to make ;an exaot estimate of the actual financial : condition of the county, from tjie feet i thfl Iut? Treasurer lias lost 80 EMttiy papers by the robbery of his office. As to tbe general condition of the Roads and Bridges of the County, refpren-c is pi^de to the last Presentment of the Grand Jury. The Poor House cannot bo made selfsustaining as a farm, from the fact that its inmates are invalids, and it might bo justly considered a hospital. The labor performed by the Inmates 1s merely nominal. Tbe outside aid has been given sparingly ou account of the Board, but the Board is of opinion that it costs less to help the needy outside, than to board them at the poor house. The Nulla Bond costs are excessive, but the Board have no control over.it. Considerable improvements have b?en made on the Public JJujldings and Offljces, which Is in accordance with tl)P recommendations of the Grand Jury; JOHN R. TOLBKRT, , Chairman Board County Commissioners.
