and fifty were killed, and thirty

Kitts is said to be in ruins.
The CnoLERA at Hamburg,?The
choiera, while increasing its ravages
at Konigsburg, has found its way to
Hamburg, where it merely waits, perhaps,
upon the tide to go out upon
the Baltic and Atlantic and seek new
victims upon other shores. The
march of tho courage across the
European continent has been slow,
but the journey is at len^h aceotn- j
plished, and its next halting pljce,
when its march is resumed, no one
may tell. That it may find its way
to America is not. impossible, and as
the authorities of every ciiy, town
and village on the continent have had
fair warning of the fact, they have a
responsibility renting upon Ihem
equal at least, if not greater, than
that which recent requisitions have
placcd upon tho shoulders of lesser
corporations and humbler individuals
in cases of calamity occurring by accident.

miles from Aiken, threatened the

etated that they had come to arrest
one Porter, accused of killing a negro;
that they bed reason to believe Porter
was there, and they intended to
. have him. Porter was not tbero,
however, but a man by the name of
Peterson was, and without "a shadow
of authoritv thev arrested him onr.
ricd him to Aiken, and lodged him in
prison."

reckless potato bug, having gone
through the State of Uhodo Island,
was last seen mounted on a wind-mill
by the seaside, wiping his eyes on

Messrs. Editors: In this ago of improvemouts
and inventions every
class of mankind, whether practical,
literary or religious, has some means
by which its members are made acquainted
with each others doing,
either by Conventions, Associations,
or some other way, except the farmer j
and he really needs such an association
more than all the others. A
great many farmers are ignorant of
supply aud demand, and because they
happen to have a fine crop, suppose
that every one else is equally fortunate,
or if they have made a failure
they suppose that cotton will surely
command high figures, not knowing
I that their little section is but a small
i speck in tho great world in which we
live. Borrowing from the political
world I hjive concluded to interview
Ninety-Six,' a plyce noted throughout
the entire State, not only for its historic
associations with the' day3 of
70, but also for tho chivalry and high
toned character ever sustained by her
sons whether in the fit-Id or the former.
I was in Ninety-Six village
a lew days sineo when the following
conversation was had: "Gentlemen,
I What is the cotton propped this year
as compared with last? There is about

llow is the corn crop? Early corn its
quite good and there will bo nearly
enough corn made this year to do us.
What of the wheat crop? That, sir, is
almost a failure, not more than onethird

indeed. "What variety is sown ? The
red oats, sir. What great advantage
has that variety over the others?

What kind of lands do you sow? Our

the cotton and then sow i
about two bushels seed to the acre
and put a harrow through each row
and you will have tho oats- in drills,
and they will not interfere at all with :
the gathering of the cotton. What!
amount is usuaily made? From thirty
to fifty bushels. Dr. Anderson and i
Mr. Floyd made fifty, and Capt. 31c-;
Gaslan this year upon three and a
half acres mado two hundred dozen, j
