A Large Rope.?An account o' 4be largest rope in the world, as described in one of the daily papers oJ Birmingham, England?the place oi its manufacture?will prove interesting to the American reador. According to the details given, tho rope is 11,0.00 yards long, measures fivo aud <xne-fourth inches in ciacumferenuc. and weighs over sixty tons. Made of patent charcoal wire, laid round a ibemp centre, the rope consists of six strands,"with ten wires on each strand. Each wire measures 12,100 yards, so that the entire length of tho wire reaches tho enormous total of more than four hundred and twelve roiics. To tin's is to bo added the length of yarn used for the centre, namely, twenty-seven threads, each thread ineasuring 15.060 yard.s, and givyig a total length of about 230 miles. Adding together the wire and the yarn, thoro is a grand total of 635 miles -of material?all going to mako a monster wire and hemp ropo a little under six miles long. R. P.
