and whieli I deem essential to their
safety of the funds an J the security ofi\

tion bill directs that county treaurersl,
shall receive, in payment of faxes, bills!
recivable of the State, United States,'and

and yet without repealing this clause ol'n
the appropriation bill, the act under;
consideration proposes to compel them''
to receive an unlimited amount of.c'
county eh'jcks or orders, without any a
provision for discriminating between ! \
fraudulent and genuine, and this while, |
in some of the counties, investigations J
are now in progress in which certain ./
county commissioners are charged with j jhaving
surreptitiously put in circulation ii
orders to a large amount, for which the n
county has received no compensation; r
or equivalent. The.-e orders m all pt'ob-j
ability, would be the lirst presented in j
payment of taxes, and the passage of
tiiis act would be to place beyond the'

are authorized to issue an un-jtl

for which the county is held respond- i, j
ble. One of the effects of the law would
be to largely increase the labors of the
county treasurers, as in tlie great majority
of tlie cases the cheeks or orders
would not be tho precise amount called ti

which would be valueless for the gen- ~

of jurors' nml witnesses' fees', tho
construction of roads and bridges, &c.,!r
would, to a great extent, paralyze the county
treasuries, by absorbing in their
redemption a large .amount of their
current revenue; and this is the more
probable when* it is well understood' l>
that in some of the counties there are!"
warrants and orders already issued be -jc

The Greenville and Columbia JKaiiroaci

The bill to promote the consolidation
of the Greenville and Blue .Ridge '
Kail roads became a law yesterday, by j
the approval of the Governor. If any j j
misapprehension continues to exist a:s; J
to the character of this bill, wo think
it must be dissipated by the clear and
f'orciblo message which accompanied
the approval. From what we learn,
this Act has been most favorably received
throughout thai section of ihs
State most' deeply interested in its!
provisions. But wo notice that our'
Charleston..contemporaries, the Newst
and the Republican, are still violent in ^
their hostile criticisms, luey miiM.j
surely be misinformed as to its histo-ij
ry. It is possible that tlicy do not 1
understand that this Act does not J
consolidate, but only enables the two!1
companies to consolidate, if they fcee'j
that such a consolidation will bo .for ]
the joint advantage of .both. Weji
think it very clear that it will be, but f
that matter we arc content to leave|J
to those who are in charge of these j
interests. One thing is very certain, <
that this Act has followed the utter,i
defeat of the two bills which propos-^
jed to repeal the endorsement of the j
I31uo liidge bonds and to guarantee j.
a new isisuo iseuo of bonds by the; <
[ Greenville Jioad. We are willing to :<

Whatever may be thought at a dis-L

and admiration of every honest-miud-^

Ayer's Cherry]Pectoral,
For Diseases of the Throat and Lungs,'
Buch as Coughs, Colds, "Whooping
Cough, Bronchitis, Asthma,
- and Consumption.
Probably never bofiaro in the whole history of
medicine, has any thing won so widely ana so
deeply upon the confidence of mankind, as this
excellent remedy for pulmonary complaints.
Through along series of years, and among mo3t i
of the races of men it has risen higher and higher
In their estimation, as ithas become better known.
'Its uniform character and power to cure the various
affections of the lungs and throat, havo
made it known a3 a reliable protector against
them. While adapted to milder forms of disease
and to young children, it is at the same time the
most effectual remedy that can be given for incipient
consumption, and the dangerous affections
of the throat and lungs. As a provision against
sudden attacks of Croup, it should be kept oa
hand in every family, and indeed as all are sometimes
subject to colds and cougli3, all should bo
provided with this antidote for them.
Although settled Consumption is thought incurable,
still great numbers of cares where the
disease seemed settled, have been completely
cured, and the patient restored to sound health
by the Cherry Pectoral. So complete is its
mastery over the disorders of the Lungs and
Throat, that the most obstinate of them yield to it.
When nothing else could reacli them, under tha
Cherry Pectoral they subside and disappear.
Singers and 1'ublio Speakers find great
protection from it.
Asthma is always relieved and often wholly
cured by it.
Bronchitis is generally cured by taking tho
uncTTjj jrcciurm in 31111111 <um iiciiuvm uvoto
So generally are its virtues known, that we
need not publish the certificates of them here, or
do more than assure the public that its qualities
are fully maintained.
Ayer's Ague Cure,
For Fovor and Ajfuo, Intermittent Fever,
Chill Fever, Hemittont Fovor, Dumb
Ague, Periodical or Bilious Fever, &c.}
and indeed nil the affections which arise
from malarious, marsh, or miasmatio
poisons.
As its name implies, it does Cure, and does not
fail. Containing neither Arsenic, Quinine, Lismuth,
Zinc, nor any other mineral or poisonous
substance whatever, it i:i nowise injures any patient.
The number and importance of its cures
in the ague districts, are literally beyond account,
and we believe without a parallel In the history
of Ague medicine. Our pride is gratiiled by the
acknowledgments we rcccivc of the radical cures
effected in obstinate cases,-and where other remedies
had wholly failed.
Unacclimatcd persons, either resident in. or
travelling through miasmatic localities^ will be

For Liver Com plaints, arising from torpidity
of the Liver, it Is an excellent remedy, stimulating
the Liver into healthy activity.
For Bilions Disorders and Liver'Complaints, it
is an excellent remedy, producing many truly
remr.rkable cures, where other medicines had
failed.
