campaign through which we have pasa^d has
been heated, and in some particulars very hitter
and acrimonious. Riubtless many things have
baen said, by the advocates of both partis
which h*d better have beeu l<ft unsaid. Of
one thine the people of the St ?ta may be as
: *ured; so far as niy coorec n a public officer is
concerned, the criminal ions, and recrimin.it ioim

should claim for himself freedom from mistakes,
or even serious error*, in the administration of

from the errors incident to all human govern,
