?The New York HeraU baa received !
a letter from a^ indignant Republican
at Columbia, in which the wriUr parades
the usual amount of gasconade
about the fierce Democracy and the
b?luddy Ku Klux. The Herald takes
a* very sensible view of Abe matter,
a - 0
and very pointedly say?:
Without undertaking to deck!* ft?
to the party on which the greatest
share of responsibility re*ia for this
and similar outrages ?il over the South,
we must express our regret that the
quiet, uimple-minded colored men of
that region aro not allowed to live
and labor in peace, without being tormented
and excited by political demagogue?,
who profesa to he their
friends, bnt are their worst enemies.
Our polities in the North are bad enough,
in {"all con?rience, bat in the
South they are unmitigated curse and
nuisance, and the black part of the
population is that which suffers and
will suffers most from them.
Cuba Not jo* f^lb,?A great deal
has been said and written regarding
the sale of Cuba to th? United States.
Many persons believed, from the
course pursued by the Jltministration
that somo negotiations weru gumg uu
looking to a transfer of the island.
At last, wo have something definite
on the subject. The Minister of the
Colonies, or at least his organ, the
Correspondeneia, of Madrid, says that
the Spanish people would nM permit
the sale of the island to tho United
States on any terms.
