Serious Affray.
."Wo regret to announce, a serious af
fray which occurred in tlie lower part
of the District, near "Trickum," on
Thursday of the past week, and re
suited in the death of Ansel G. Tolbort.
It geems that a stock lo^ had
-been sent by Thomas B. Tolbcrt t<
the mill of Joseph \Y. Cook to besawC'l,
which for some reason had hoi
;bcen received. Cook came into I In
field where the brothers were sowing
? wheat, and demanded two dollars ant
forty cents, which Tolbert refused t(
pay. An altercation arose, and Cooldrew
his revolver and discharged i
twice at Thomas B. Tolbert, wohik!
ing him seriously in the neck ant!
shoulder and arm. The latter thei
escaped, and also a negro man *.vh<
was with them. Ansel G. Tolbers
stood his ground and received a mor
tal wound in the pit of his stomacl
' - ?n: , i ,i
and .also a blow on in? iop ui ?ia uu?i
In the absence, 011 account of sick
ness (of the Coroner, Mr. Robert Jones
an irqnest was held by R. 11. Iletnp
hill, Esq., and a verdict was rendere<
through the foreman of the jury, Air
G. L. Sibert, in accordance with tin
" above facts.
In-contradiction of.various false ru
raort^wo would state, on the authori
ty of tho acting Coroner, that then
was no political issue involved in th<
qiuurel.
