General Pitehor, tho Superintchdent of the Military Academy,interrogated Smith who stated that tho published lcttci was a garbled copy of that written tc his friend, Mr. Clark, of llartford Jle furnished the Superintendent witL a truo copy, which is now in posses sion of tho War Department.
