his Honor, the Presiding Judgo, a

Gracd Jurj'. They were comparatively
few in number and for the most part
wer? for trivial offenses. We congratulate
tho District upon this aspect
of affairs, which we attribute as^much
to tho general good order, as to the
-wiae discretion of magistrates, in
saving tho tho courts from tho investigation
of frivolous complaints.
One of the long lookod-for, tho long
talkcd-about, cases of the State against
tho alloged murderers ot" Iiaudolph,
was givon out at last, and cuded, us

doubt too much disorder on Sale Days'
uud during Court Week, and as some-!
body is to blame, tho Gruud Jury';
very naturally lay the sin afr the door
of the Council, whose duty it is to
preserve tho peace. This much we
will say, however. Ou ordinary occasions
our village is the most quiet and j
orderly, and if 011 other occasions it
bo otherwise, we do not know that it
constitutes an exception to tho condi-!
tion of its winter villages; or that tho|
means under tho control of the Coun-1
oil, could well prevent those occasion-1
al excesses which grow out of ourj
present anomalous condition. This'
much wo do know, and take pleasure j
in expressing, mm mo present uoun-l,
oil is one of the most efficient wo have'
ever had, and bns surpassed perhaps !
all of its predecessors, in its wise ex-1
penditnrcs, and beneficent public improvements.

per cent Interest on the money advanced.
We will bave the Cotton held at the

are not satisfied to sell their Cotton at
present prices, and yet need money to

x ship tbeir Cotton through us, draw sufficient
funds for meeting present demand*,
and take the risk of realizing better price*,
by holding as long as they desire. Tho
Commission Merchants to whom we ship
are second to none in point of re?puusi'

of holding cotton*
"The expense* pf storing cotton in New
York is 25 cents a bale per month. The
