In A Primitive Cabbjn.

kind, and if y’all can make it up, I
guess I can scrape ronnd and git some
flour, kill a chicken, churn and, give
you a weddin,” and your correspon
dent thought that if he was looking
for physical strength and develope-
tnent, he couldn’t do better.
W^en bod time came I was advised
to “shell off,” which, to my surprise, I
lad to do before the family, consisting
of the old man wife, and ten children
(a small crop for this part of the ceun-
:ry,j ppd fair Ann; so, with my faoe a
ovely crimson. I shelled off, Pretty
soon the family followed my example
From the log rafters of the one-room
louse, in which the family ate, slept,,
cooked and did everything else,there
huug large festoons of dried pumkins,
apples, dried and strung, the clolhes
jqf the whole family, pieces of pork,
and epdless other things for comfort
,p,nd winter consumption.
On the table, three times e day, we
gpt invariably fried perk, sweet pota-
.toos, coffee, minus sugar, and forever
and eternally “Johnny constant” or
corn bread, and, I may add, butter
milk. House after houe we stopped
at, and it was the same—nothing of
the comforts of life.
These and fine counties for coal and
timber- Thousands of large logs are
hauled to the bank of Coal river ready
for a rise, and a boom is being built
te catch the logs.
