The mail, up passenger and Savan nah Valley trains pass each other here Mr. W. S. Gregory has sold his in terest iu the Woodruff Progress to his partner, Mr. A. C. Harris, who will continue its publication with S. M. Pilgrim, Esq., as editor. The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle is a great paper. In addition to its Colum bia bureau, another one has recently been established in Charleston. The Chronicle is very popular in S. C. ^ The fight between Capt. Raoul and GenT Alexander for the presidency of the Central railroad, is hotter and hot ter. The Chronicle favors the former, while the Evening News the latter. A special dispatch to the Advance says: Last Sunday night a party con sisting of five men went to arrest some negroes near Goshen, Ga., about ten miles across the river from here. The negroes were ambushed aud fired into the party, wounding them all; enp, Mr. Thos. Leverett, fatally. Orange Blossoms appear to be scarce around Plum Branch. There is one store in town and sev eral farms to rent near by. J. W. Halloway is hauling lumber preparatory to building in town. We have had very unpleasant weather for the past week—snow, ice, rain and cold. The ladies that were raising money for a store for the Baptist church have bought a large and handsome one from W. I. Delph. There are twenty-four persons by the name of William in the vicinity of Plum Branch. The Joes’ Jims’ and Johns’ have to take a back seat. Mrs. Adaline and J. W. Blackwell are each building a dwelling on the Edgefield road, one-half or three- quarters of a mile from Plum Branch. Remember tiie Legislature is in ses sion. Instruct your i epreseutative as to what you want and all will be well, but neglect this important subject and what will be the consequences. Rev. J. A. Bulwill preach two ser mons each month at Plum Branch next year. Also two sermons each month at Rehobeth. He has been called at Dornsville for one Sunday in each month. Miss Cora Hawles, who has been endingseveral weeks with her friend, iss .'ennie Hid, returned to Liucoln- ton yesterday. Several of the Plum Branch boys sent their best wishes along with her. J. T. Freeland has in his possession a Spanish coin supposed to have been lost by Da Soto in his travels through this section. Tins piece of money is verv old. Be sure go and help the little ones out. THE MARRIAGE OF MR, JOHN R. KAY AND MISS TULOLA B. HOWARD. Mr. John R., Kay aud Miss Tulula B. Howard, both of McCormick, were mairied at 7 o’clock on Thursday even ing, December 8, 1886, at the Bapt.st church, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. J. A. Bell. The church was handsomely decorated and the music excellent. Immediately after the marriage, the bridal party and a number of invited guests repaired to the residence of Mr. W. S. Howard, the bride’s father, where a reception was given and an elegant supper served. The bridegroom is well known here; for his many excellent qualities he has won a host of friends. The bride is one of McCormick's most love ly daughters. She is loved and ad mired by everybody. May their path way through life be strewn with none but the loveliest flowers. Bell, of McCormick, Mr. J. P. Love- las, of Edgefield Co., to Miss M. E. Palmer. This was an exceedingly E leasant and attractive occasion. The ride presented a charming appear ance. The groom looked quite con scious of his happy attainment and -^valuable prize. He has the light bramas, white leghorn and the wyandottes. Miss Lizzie Wardlaw, the beautiful and accomplished daughter of Mr. D. J. Wardlaw, spent last Friday evening in town with friends. Miss Deci Earle, of Anderson; Miss Estelle Fouche, of Coronaco, and Miss Minnie Gardener, of Edgefield, are visiting Miss Sallie Britt. Notwithstanding the hard times, Santa Claus is well fixed for Christ mas. Most of the stores and shops are crowded with toys, candies, etc., Mr. F. H. Dunington, of Kentucky, will be here this week or next with a fine drove of horses and mules, which he will dispose of at low figures. Mr. C. H. Edmunds, while bird hunt ing one day last week, shot and killed fourteen partridges at one shot. He ranks next to Sautuck’s rifle shot. Our “devil” called on his best girl the other evening, and being so mis chievous, he could not resist the temp tation to cut off the tail of her pet cat. Mr. Colvin has been here for a week with a drove of hogs. They are sell ing at 5fc. a pound. About" forty of the hogs have already been sold in town. On the 7th inst., at the residence of the bride’s mother, near Buffalo church, Abbeville Co., by Rev. J. A. Bell, Dr. T. E. Jennings, of Modoc, Edgefield Co., to Miss M. E. Trewit. This was a joyous nuptial gathering. The bride was beautifully attired in elegant silk of delicate texture, high ly ornamented with the falling of a most handsome tullue veil. The per sona of the groom was of splendid bearing—distingue. A magnificent re past was heartily enjoyed by many relatives and friends. It displayed the most epicurean culture and taste. We put down this vicinity rather extra for such affairs. The entire occasion wss the exhibition of esprit do corps. May many bright suns and moons gladden the path of our dear friends. On the 2nd inst., at the residence of Mr. Holder, near McCormick, by Rev. J. A. Bell, Mr. J. M. Seigler to Miss J. F. Celeman. We wish this young couple many years of undiminished happiness.
