The freight trains now^pass each other here at midnight. Georgia made Wool Jeans 25c. at Cash Store. Mr. W. N. Mercier, of Augusta, was in town last Sunday. The schedule of South Carolina Railroad appears in this issue. Our merchants will close their stores j next Thursday and have a holiday. Mr. W. L. The weather was very windy yester day and it was difficult to keep one’s hat on. Sturkey is a farmer as well as merchant, and will make about 40 bales of cotton this -year. | Last Annnal Meeting of the Augusta and Knoxville Railroad. About 25 gentlemen assembled yes terday to confirm the action of the di rectors in consolidating the Augusta and Knoxville Railroad with the other railroads of the Carolina system. At their meeting yesterday the stockhold ers confirmed the action of the direct ors, and from now on the Augusta and Knoxville will be known as a link of the Western Carolina Raiiroad. Major Raoul introduced a resolution instructing their financial agent to pay those who dosired it $17 per share for the stock of the Augusta and Knoxville Railroad. Major J. W, Green is gen eral manager of the system and Capt- W. W. Starr the superintendent.— Augusta Chronicle. How to Make Good Persimmon Beer. Now is the time to make this great Southern beverage, that is so healthful and harmless. It is worthy of any one’s attention. For five gallous of beer get two gallons of nice ripe per simmons (they ought to be stemmed, as the stems and burrs give give it an astringent taste), and to those two gal lons of persimmons add four gallons of warm water, and to this add about one pound of dried apples or peaches and a few ripe locusts, if they are conven ient Let it stand about one week in a warm room or cellar, when it will be ready for use. When used out add a few more persimmons and locusts and fill with warm woter again. If you want to keep the persimmons until spring, pick them clean and mix with wheat bran and bake in large ones or cakes, the same as light read. When you use this cake dis solve it in warm water and add about two quarts New Orleans syrup to five gallons, to start fermentation. It is a healthy ahd harmless bevei*- age. In cases of fever and ague l he blood is as effectually, though not so danger ously poisoned by the effluvia of the atmosphere as it could be by the dead liest poison. Dr. J. H. A beautiful line of Gold Plated Jew elry just received at “The Cash Store.” On the night of the accident at the Savannah river bridge some of the train bands heard two gun shots out in the woods on the Georgia side. On going to the spot they found a colored trooper in the act of skinning his neigh bor’s cow. He was arrested, tried the next day and sentenced to pay a fine of $30 and give up the beef. The weather was very uncertain yesterday, and af ter nightfall it became very dark and rained steadily. This kept many from turning out, but a very good house K tea the troupe and every one was _ ly pleased and glad to be present. The performers are well known in this section and have many friends, all of whom are agreeably surprised at their proficiency in the minstrel line. The club will return again before long and will be welcomed by a full house. We would like to give the names of the members, but time now forbids.
