* over the State of South Carolina.
WHEUEAS information has been received hy
this Department that a certain free man of
color, named Tora Archer, was, on or aboo the 12th
of March last, feloniously taken and carried away
from the house of widow I fill, near the Fish Dam
Ford, in the District of Chester, by two white men,
who called themselves Alexander Archer and
Ha;ris- . . ? ?
NOW KNOW YE, Thaf to the intent the said
Archer and Harris may be brought to legal trial and
condign punishment for', the abduction and offence
aforesaid, Fdo hereby offer a reward of three hundred
- dollars lor.the apprehension and delivery of the said

for the delivery of either of them, into any jail in this

a Negro man, who calls his name NED, and
says he belongs to Vincent Carr, a Sugar Planter,
on the Mississippi river, in the State of Louisianna,
and says he ranaway on April last. Ned is about
twenty five years of age, about five feet five inches
hi??h, dark complexion, has lost his two upper front
teeth. Ned says he was raised in Charleston S. C.,
by John Maybank, and sold by him to Harry Bow
man, and by Bowman, to his present master, Vin
cent Carr. The owner is notified to come forward,
prove his property, and comply with the law in other
respects.

TIIE Subscriber being desirous to withdra, frem
his present business, offers for sale his nlire
stock of Books, Stationary &c. The stock is
and well adapted for this market, it is composedr^
variety not surpassed by any similar establishing
in the State. The terms will be such that it wou>
be an object for any one with a capital that wishes!
to engage in this line of business. The store u one
hundred and fifty feet deep, with a dwelling attached,
situated on the corner of the block, the lot extend
ing to the back street, it being one of the most de
sirable situations for a Book establishment &c "*n the
place, having recently been pot in good repair at a
considerable expense, and under a lease for a term
of years, to an approved tenant that would procure
the stock, could occupy it at the same low rent as
now paid. All his heusehold furniture, will be sold,
provided the stock of Books &c. is disposed of.
He offers also for sale two Squares of Land, lying
south of the old burying ground near the Columbia
Bridge.
The undersigned tenders his most sincere thanks
for past favors to those that have sustained him in
business, and solicits a continuation of the same, to
enable him to close his affairs. Those indebted to
him will please come forward and settle arrears, in
order lhat he may pay those he is indebted to.
Having been in business for the last fifteen years
in this place and not suing more on an average, than
one a year, he hopes still he may close his mercan
tile transactions without resorting to this unpleasant
recourse, and then apply his attention hereafter to
that which is better adapted to his present health.^

institutions. The Academic year will be divided
