over the said State.
WHEREAS, information has been received by
this department that an atrocious murder
was committed in the district of York, on the 14th
inst. on the body of Wm. Nance, by a negro man
slave, named Jack, the property of George M'AUiley,
and that the said negro Jack has fled front justice,
NOW KNOW YE, to the intent that the said Jack
may be brought to trial for the said crime; I do here
by offer a reward of two hundred dollars for the ap
prehension of said Jack and lodging him in any jail of
this State. Jack is about 45 years old, 5 feet 9 or 1Q
inches, weighs about 150 or 160 pounds complexion
yellow black, loves a dram, talks much, and brags
greatly of his knowledge of Farriery and Wagoning,
of which it is said that he has been driver in almost
every State south and west of New York. He was
sometime ago purchased by his present owner from a
Mr. Waugh oi North Carolina.
Given under my hand and seal of the State at
Columbia, this 24th day of Oct. 1837.

says he belongs to Vincent Carr, a Sugar Planter,
on the Mississippi river, in the State of Louisianna,
and says he ranawav on April last. Ned is about
twenty five years of age, about five feet five inches
high, dark complexion, has lost his two upper front
teeth. Ned says he was raised in Charleston S. C.,
by John Maybank, and sold by him to Harry Bow
man, and by Bowman, to his present master, Vin
cent Carr. The owner is notified to come forward,
prove his property, and comply with the law in other
respects.

Negroes and Land lor Sale.
In pursuance of the last Will and Testament of
Doctor Samuel Green, late of Columbia, deceased, will
be sold before the Court House, in Columbia, on Tues
day the 5th day of December nert,a part of the Estate
of said {deceased, consisting of about eighty slaves ;
among them are valuable mechanics, cooks, washers,
house servants, and field hands.
The plantation about 1100 acres, more or less, on
the Road to Winnsboro', about 14 miles nbove Co
lumbia.
The farm (about 498 acres) in Lexington District,
on Congaree River, opposite Columbia ; ? and four
Islands adjacent in the Kiver.
A tract of 120 acres on Crane Greek, adjoining John
Glover.
A Tract of 197 acres more or less about three or
four miles from Columbia, adjoining Dr. Marks, N.
Herbemont and others.
Sundry lots and squares in Columbia.
Terms will be one iourth part of the purchase to be
paid in Cash, and for the balance bonds with good
security, payable in one, two, and three years with
interest, and secured by a mortgage of the property.
Possession of the Lands will be given by the 1st of
January.

mules, hordes, cattle, hogs, poultry, wagons, ploughs,

Saluda Manufacturing Co
* Resolved, by the Board of Directors of
Saluda Manufacturing Company, That the
Books shall be opened on llie 1st day of March
next, at the counting house of D. <fe J. Ewart
& Co., for an additional subscription of one
hundred thousand dollars to the capital Stock,
of the Company. New subscribers will be
admitted into the Company on the same terms
and on the same conditions of original sub
scribers. Ten dollars a share on each share
of one hundred dollars, will be required at time
of subscribing, and ten dollars a share at the
end of each and every sixty days thereafter '
until the whole will be paid. A failure to com
ply with these terms, will inure in aforfeiture
of the stock for the benefit of the Company.
The Company having one fourth of the mill
filled with machinery, and now i<) operation,
and another fourth in progress of setting up,
are able to calculate to a reasonable degree of
certainty, the value of their undertaking. To
make the establishment available to the full
extent cf which it is capable, they have come
to the determination, provided they can sell
the stock, to fill the mill from the basement to
the attic story. The citizens of our State, &b4
particularly the present stockholders, ace called
upon to aid in an undertaking whic^ will be a
