Cabusle of Wofford College, for the horizon of Charleston, but also adapted to the whole State and adjaoent States. It contains lists of the executive officers and some others of the United States; the chief offioers of the States of South Caroliua, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and North Carolina, ete., with the tiroes of holding Courts, and other general information, with farm and garden calender. It is also in terspersed between the leaves with blank pages, upon which any memoranda maybe made. We will use it in our office, and thank the publishers for it. Beidvllle Female Collego. Smith, recently elected Governor of Georgia, was inaugurated on i-riday last, 12th inat. A dispatch front Atlanta h of that date says: 19 " Gov. Smith was inaugurated to-day. The capitol was crowded. " The Chief Magistrate must not only call P around him honest men, but must huve his own hands clean. Ho alludes to thb debt u created by Bullock, and assorts that Georgia " will pay all her logal indebtedness. Repudiution is not dreamed of. He concludes by con* 0 gratulating the people upon the auspicious * state ot affairs." ^ A Lucky North Carolinian. t The gentleman alluded to in the following f article, is a brother of our friend, Mr. Jamks 8 H. IUyses, who has recently removed to a the City of Greenville, and iajtow residing in s our midst. Beforo he grows much older, we F hope be will meet with as good luck as his adventurous brother. It is copied from a North Carolina paper: g Capt. A. S. Haynes, a true and gallant h Confederate soldier, of Lincoln County, hav- 11 ing been unfortunate in business, determined / to seek bis fortune in Colorado. Ho went out e there hoping to establish a cattle Bancbe.? c Not being able to succeed in this, he rent to ? cutting cross ties and trade at it, some ? 1 per day, for a month. Be then entered with four others into the Pioneor Stamp Mill and work- ? ed all summer. At the and of that time, liis j party was $336 in debt. Not discouraged by d the result and determined not to return with- c out effecting something, they began prospect- * Ing for silver, and the first day found enough f to put them out of debt and leave each ot t them a surplus of $25. They discovered two ' mines of Black Sulphuret of Silver, which 0 they named the " Tar Uocls" and the " Haynes." The Capiain has now an interest in twelvo ^ claims, with the title deeds properly entered and recorded. The most inferior of theso gives r an assay of $38 per ton ; and the best, an as- 1 say of $3,200 per ton. Jn the mine, the easiest <] worked, one han<h can get out half a ton per 1 day, worth $600 per ton. He has taken in five * partners, all of them large capitalists. The miners are now snowed under and no work can he done till next June. These are situatod in the neighborhood ol a town called Montgome- j ry, in Parke County, Colorado. The highest lodei in the world are there. One of the < houses of the company is 18,500 feet above v the level of the Ooean. It is in the vioinity " of Mount Lincoln. All men cannot have the same good luck as ( the indomitable Captain ; but that good luck never would have happened to one lacking j pluck, energy and peraererance. The resolute | will of the Captain triumphed over difficulties that would hare discouraged most men. Taa South Cabolira Kiko.? Says the * New York Evening Post, (Republican :) The committee of the South Carolina Tax* payers' Convention have decided to institute active proceedings against the State officers who have formed a ring apparently quite as corrupt as Tweed's ring in this city. The committee are encouraged to begin the work ] by the recent report of the committee of the | Legislature who investigated the obarges i against those officers, and regard as necessary 1 action by some responsible body of oitlsens, since the Legislature baa refused to aet in accordance with the reeeommendations of its wa committee. The charges of fraud and peewlation are toe numerous to be given in detail. The evidence is so plain that tbeir truth eaanot be doubted. It shows elearly why the 1 taxes for the support of the State Government have been increased by the ruling ring from 9M4,0N to more than $1,000,00? per year, and i why the State debt baa Inoreaeed from $6,000,* $66 to an indeflnite amount, variously estimate ed at from $20,000,000 to $00,000,000. The Meads of honest government everywhere will . wish the South Carolina tax-payers success in tbeir efforts to throw off the hag whisk has j robbed them so extensively. OONSTJMPTI ON. Its Cure and Its Preventive, BY J. H.fiCUENC?, M. D. MANY a human being bu passed away, for wboae death there was so ether | I reason than the negleet of known and indis- , putablj proven means of core. Those near and dear to family and friends are sleeping the dreamless slumber into whieh, bad they calmly adopted . DR. JOSEPH H. BCHENCK'S SIMPLE TREATMENT, and availed themselves of his wonderful oioua modioiues, they would not have fallen. Dr. Sobenk haa in hia own caaa proved that wherever aaflloient vitality re ma in a, that vital* ity, by hia mediolnea and the direotiona lor their use, ia quickened into healthful vigor. In this statement there ia nothing presumptnous. To the faith of the invalid is made no repreaentation that ia not a thousand times substantiated by living aud visible works. The theory of tho cure by Dr. 8chenck's medicines is as simple as it ia unfailing. Its philosophy requires no argument. It is sell-assuring, self-convincing. The Seawood Tbnio end Mandrake Pills are the first two weapons with which the citadel of tho malady ia assailed. Two-thirds of the cases of consumption originate in dyspepsia and a functionally disordered liver. With this condition the bronchial tubes " sympathise " with the stomach. They respond to the morbifio action of the liver. Here then comes the oulminating result, and the setting in, with all its distressing symptoms, of CONSUMPTION. The Mnndrake Pills are composed of one of Nature's Boblest gifts?the Pjdnpbilliutn Peltatum. They possess all tflo blood-rearcbing, alterative properties of calomel, but uulike calomel, they -LEAVE NO STINO BEHIND." The work of cure is now I egiuning. The vitiated and mucous deposits in the bowels and ib the ulimcntnry canal are ejected. Tlu liver, like a clock, is wound up. It arouses from its torpidity. The stomach acts rcspon ivoly, and the-patient begins to feel that ha is getting, at last, A SUPPLY OP GOOD BLOOD. The Seawood Tonic, in conjnnctien with the Pills, permeates and assimilates with the food. Cbylification is uow progressing without its jrevioits tortures. Digestion becomes painless, ind the cure is seen to ho at bend. There is 10 more fluti'.lence, no exacerbation of the rtonnch. An appetite sets in. Now comes the greatest Blood Purifier ever ret given by ao indulgent father to suffering nan. Sche.ick's Pulmonic Syrup comes in to orform its functions and to kasieu and coudcte tho cure. It enters at once t-pon its rork. Nature cannot bo cheated. It collects nd ripens the impaired and defeased portion* . me mugs. in th^ form of ^atherin ?, it reparts them for expoctoratiou, tad lo ! in a aty short time the malady is vanquished, the otten throne thnt it occupied is -on'ovated and :tde row, tnd the patient, in all the tii oity f tegained vigor, steps forth to enjoy the manood or the womanhood that was.
