to the Ornnd Jury, instructing them in their

the general peace end good order prevail-*

exempt from the terrors and losses some
other counties were suffering, which are

to the fact that ho had congratulated the
County of Pickens, ae he did Greenville,
and that the good conduct ot the people of
these counties In forbearing from the evil
course of some others, should always be
remembered by them as an encouragement
to a continuation in the same law-abiding
and peaceful conduct. He condemned in
suitable terms the folly of people attempt
ing to override public law, or to expect pro
per redress from any other source than under
the forms of the Constitution, through
the courts and through the ballot. This
was sure in the end, although it might be
delayed for a time.

The Atlantic Aoid Phosphate, and Atlantic
Phosphate.
Now that our farmers and planters are more
than ever awakening to the importance of manuring
their land, resulting probably from a
better knowledge of the various commercial
manures advertised in the public prints, they
will see] the necessity of closely examining
into the merits and qualities of every fertilizer,
and ascertaining the comparative value
of each, and obtain the best artiole at the
cheapest price. Among tho many offered to
tbo public, those advertised in our columns this
week by Messrs. Pklzbr, Rodokrs A Co., of
Charleston, are said to have claims upon the
planting gentlemen surpassed by no other manures,
taking the very low price charged into
consideration. For the Atlantic Acid Pho j,hate,
the cash price is only $28 per ton and
$31 on time, and the Atlantic Phoepkate will
be shipped at $48 per ton cash, and $52 on
time, without interest. These very low rates
must attract an examination. See advertisements
in our columns.

Lttemy Club.
The last meeting was held at the house of
Mr. TnOMAsSTKiN. The inclemency of the
weather prevented a large number from
attending. The Essayist, Prof. C. II. Judhok,
discussed with great ability on the abstruse
ard almost incomprehensible subject
of the Correlation of forces. It wjb ably
but not fully discussed, became of want of
time, and will, on some future occasion, by
request of the Soceity, be more fully treated
by the learned Professor. The Society,
it is hoped, will be fully revived under the
ansnices of the eminent President, Rev.

A* incident occurred on Monday, in Mnin
Street, which amused those who happened to
be the spectators. A colored man, eu?.e riding
down the street very rapidly, on a horse,
and juat as he came in front of the store of
Messrs, Wu. Bkattik A Co., the animal suddenly
stumbled and fell. The horse struck on
its head and performed a complete summersault,
his hind heels pointing towards the
river and his head in the direction in whieh
he came. Both rider and horse were completely
bewildered for a time, and seemed not to
know what course to pursue. No serious damage
was done by the collapse.

Uae of Commercial Manures Increasing.
In conversation with Mr. Julius C. Smith,
the <ther day, he informed us that the peo. f

mercial manures to a greater extent than r
ever before; he alone has received orders c
for eighty tons of Wando, and the agents g
in this City for the other companies have t
olso received large orders. 'We record this (

as it indicates a positive desire of improve- t
