Olroult Oourt at QreenvlDeaha January Term of the Ooort in Greenill* commenced on Monday. The Juriea were called and organized. The Judge not being present, the Clerk adjourned the Court till next day. Judge Orb, wieelj considering that the first Baleday in the year would so sngroes Sheriff and ether Court officers and parties having business in Conrt, deemed it unnecessary to take bis seat on the Bench the first day of the Term. Yesterday the Solicitor gave out a bill for murder and sundry bills for lareeny, Jbo.? The Judge gave a brief and sensible charge to the Ornnd Jury, instructing them in their doty as to the bills before them, and con* eluded with a hearty congratulation upon the general peace end good order prevail-* ing in Greenville, especially upon the free* dom which the County enjoyed in being exempt from the terrors and losses some other counties were suffering, which are brought upoa them by reason of the unlawful combinations that had been formed to take law into their own hands and eom Immigration it needed in South Carolina. He condemned in suitable terms the folly of people attempt ing to override public law, or to expect pro per redress from any other source than under the forms of the Constitution, through the courts and through the ballot. This was sure in the end, although it might be delayed for a time. The State against Portman Howard, Delia Ann Howard and Mary Green, indictmont for the murder ot George M. Green: Tbo Grand Jury yesterday returned a true bill in this case. The trisl will take place during the present term. Christmas Gifts. The Presbyterian Church in this place has presented its esteemed pastor Rev. Dr. Buist, with a valuable purse and other gifts. Dr. Burst is held in high esteem by hie congregation for his faithful and able services in the pulpit and pastoral labors. The Episcopal Church in Greenville has presented its eloquent and gifted rector, Rev. ELLisovCAm^m^with many valuable and its esteem and roevidences gard. The Baptist Church in this City has proented its venerable and distinguished pastor, Rxv. Jamks C. Furmaw, D. D., with numerous valuable and useful presents, as an evidence of their high esteem and regard for his valuable labors. Theso testimonals aro beautiful evidences of Christian love, and well suitod to the joyful season of Christmas. The Atlantic Aoid Phosphate, and Atlantic Phosphate. Now that our farmers and planters are more than ever awakening to the importance of manuring their land, resulting probably from a better knowledge of the various commercial manures advertised in the public prints, they will see] the necessity of closely examining into the merits and qualities of every fertilizer, and ascertaining the comparative value of each, and obtain the best artiole at the cheapest price. Among tho many offered to tbo public, those advertised in our columns this week by Messrs. Pklzbr, Rodokrs A Co., of Charleston, are said to have claims upon the planting gentlemen surpassed by no other manures, taking the very low price charged into consideration. For the Atlantic Acid Pho j,hate, the cash price is only $28 per ton and $31 on time, and the Atlantic Phoepkate will be shipped at $48 per ton cash, and $52 on time, without interest. These very low rates must attract an examination. See advertisements in our columns. I ??? ? Lttemy Club. The last meeting was held at the house of Mr. TnOMAsSTKiN. The inclemency of the weather prevented a large number from attending. The Essayist, Prof. C. II. Judhok, discussed with great ability on the abstruse ard almost incomprehensible subject of the Correlation of forces. It wjb ably but not fully discussed, became of want of time, and will, on some future occasion, by request of the Soceity, be more fully treated by the learned Professor. The Society, it is hoped, will be fully revived under the ansnices of the eminent President, Rev. Joii* A. Broadot, D. D. " ?? A* incident occurred on Monday, in Mnin Street, which amused those who happened to be the spectators. A colored man, eu?.e riding down the street very rapidly, on a horse, and juat as he came in front of the store of Messrs, Wu. Bkattik A Co., the animal suddenly stumbled and fell. The horse struck on its head and performed a complete summersault, his hind heels pointing towards the river and his head in the direction in whieh he came. Both rider and horse were completely bewildered for a time, and seemed not to know what course to pursue. No serious damage was done by the collapse. 1* m*A ** 1 ftu Kin Miiinoaa.
