Sasafras Oil.?The manufacture of sasafras oil has been conducted for the past two years in Richmond, Ya., on an extensive scalo by a firm of colored persons. And since tlie establishment of this factory, similar establishments have been started along the railroad at various points throughout Virginia. At the tactory in Rich mond the sasafrns root in purchased at the rate ot 30 cents per hundred pounds, and the collectors, it is 6tatcd, have in some instances, made $2 a day by the sale of the raw material to the establishment. The machinery uses up torty thou sand pounds of the sasafrns a week, or ten thousand pounds a day, the still only working four days in the week. The oil manu factured amounts to two per cent, ot the stock U6ed, 800 pounds of unrectified oil being made from 40,000 pounds ot the root. This quantity is further reduced by rccitication and cleansing from sed iment and impurity. A gallon of fine oil weighs 10 pounds, and about 40 gallons are produced every week. The root is first cut up fine by a chopping machine, and the raw materials are placed in a large tub, which is closed, and steam is then forced through the mass. The oil is then distilled by the ordinary process. It is largely U6ed for sceuting toilet soap and for flavoring tobacco. The State of South Carolina? GREENVILLE COUNTY. Sheriff's Sales. MANY ? bumii being ha* passed away, lur wbuw death tliera was no other reason than the oegloct of known aud indisputably proven uieuns of euro. Those nea' aud dear to family aud friends are sleeping the dreamless slumber into which, bad the; calmly adopted DR. JOSEPH H. SCHKNCK S SIMPLS TREATMENT, "and availed themaelves of bis wonderful effk-aeious uiedleincs, they would not have fallen. Dr. Scbeuk has iu his own case proved that wherever sufficient vitality remains, that vitals ity, by bis uicdicinea and the directions lor their uso, i* quickvuod into healthful vigor. lu this statement there is nothing presotnpt* j nous. To the faith of the invalid is made no representation that is not a thousand times ' substantiated by living and visible works. The theory of the euro hy Dr. Sehonck's medicines is as simple as it is unfailing. Its phi- ' losophy requires no argument. It is sell-assuring,-self-convincing. The Seawood Tonic md Mandrake Tills are 1 the first two wcupons with wliicb the citadel ' of tlio uialady is assailed. Two-thirds of the cases of consumption originate in dyspepsia and a functionally disordered liver. With this* condition the bronchial tubes "sympathise"! casta!* tku ulitmank Tlinv r??attnnr) 1st ilia iDDP. I ifio action of tUo lircr. Hero then pomes the culminating result, mi l the setting in, with all its distressing symptoms, of CONSUMPTION. The Mandrake Pills are rnmprscd of one o Nature's noMest gills?the P idopbillium Peltutuui. They possess all the hlood senrcbing, altcrntiro properties o? calomel, hut unlike oalonicl, they "LEAVE NO STING BEHIND." The work ol cure is now beginning. The vitiuted and mucous deposits in the bowels and in the uliuicntnry canal are ejected. The liver, like a clock, is wound up. It arouses frotn its torpidity. The stomach nets rcrponaively^nnd the patient begius to feci that lie is getting, at last, A SUPPLY OF GOOD BLOOD. The Scawood Tonic, in cotijunclien with the Pills, permeates and assimilates with the food. CbyliDcation is now progressing without its previous tortures. Digestion becomes painless, and the cure is seen to be nt hand. There is no more flatulence, no exacerbation of the stomach. An appetite sets in. Now comes the greatest Blood Purifier over yet given hy an indulgent lather to sulTcring man. Sehi nek's Pulmonic Syrup comes in to perform its (mictions and to hasten and complete the core. It euters nt once rpon its work. Nature cannot he chcuteil. It collects and ripens the impaired and diseased portions of the lungs. In the form of gatherings, it prepares them for expectoration, and lo ! in a veiy short time the malady is vanquished, the rotten throne that it occupied is renovated and rande new, nod the patient, in all the dignity of regained vigor, steps forth to enjoy the manhood or the womanhood that was. GIVEN UP AS LOST. The second thing is, the patients must stay in a warn, room until they get well ; it is nl? mast impossible to prevent taking cold when the lungs are diseased, but it must be prevented or a cure cannot be effected. Fresh air and riding tut. especially in this section o." the country in the fall and wiuter season, are all wrong. Physicians who recommend that course lose their pntieuls, if their lungs are badly diseased, and yet, because they are in the bouse they must uot sit down quiet; they 1 must wulk about the room as much and as Inst us the strength will bear, to get up u good cir' culation ot blood. The patients must keep in good spirits?be determined to get well. This hus a great dcul to do with the appetite, and , is the great point to gain. To desnnir of cure alter such cvi.lcnoe of its possibility-in the wot st cases, and moral certainty in all othe?, is sinful. l>r. Schenek's persona' statement to the Faculty of Lis own A cure was in these modest words : " Many years ago I was in the Inst stsges of consumption ; confined to my bed, and at one time my physicians thought that I could not live a week ; then, like u drowning man catch' ing at straws, I heard of mid obtained the pre I paratiotis which 1 now cflfcr to the public, and the}' made a perfect cure ol tno. It seemed to ma that I could feel them penetrate my whole system. They soon ripened the matter in my lungs, and I would spit up more than a pint of offensive yellow matter every morning for , a long time. As soon as that began to subside, m/ cough, fever, pain and night sweats all begnu to | leave tno, and niv appetite became so great tbut it was with difficulty that I could keep from catirg too much. I soon gained uiy strength, and hare grown in flesh ever since." 1 ' I was weighed shortly alter iny recovery," ' added the Doctor," then looking like a mere ) skeleton ; my weight was only ninety seven pounds; my present weight is two hundred a and twenty-five l"-5] pounds, and for years 1 v have enjoyed uninterrupted henltb." Dr. Schcnck has discontinued his professional visits to New York nml Boston. He or J 1 his son, Dr. J. II. Scbetick, Jr., still continue to see patients at their office, No. 15 North Sixth I ttrect, Philadelphia, every Saturday from V u A. M. to 3 P. M. Thoso who wish a thorough examination with tho Respiroinetcr will be charged?5. The llespirometcr declares the exact condition of the lungs, and patients can J readily learn whether they are cttruble or not. The directions for taking tlio tuu lieines are adapted to the intelligence even of a child. Follow these directions, and kind Nature will do the rest, excepting that in some eases the Mandrake Pills are to ho taken in increased 1 doses; the three medicines need no other ao oompaniments than tho ample instructions that J accompany them : First create appetite. Of returning health hunger is the most welcome symptom. When it comes, as it will come, let tho despairing at or > e I c of good cheer. Uood 1 blood at once follows, the cougli loosens, the night sweat is abated. Ju a short time both of these morbid symptoms are gone forever. f Dr. Sclienek's medicines aro constantly kept I in tens of thousands of families.
