Extension of t Railroad from Qroanvillo ,u
to Aihrrllla W. O. F
The oitixtns of Gretnvilto and partlee j,,
elsewhere whose interods are Involved, are H|
becoming mora and mora eonoeracd in tha
proposition loog eontemplited of building JJ
a rood Irom Greenville to Ashevide.
great importanea hat baan ^gata and again
commented on by ourselves In lha Kvriarr.isa
and by othara in public and private. j|
The line ia short, the route praotleable, ,|
through a settle! and growing part of the c<
country,?nd leading to the produoliva re- <
glon of Weatern North Carolina, East Tanneaaea
and the West boyond. It is moro 4,
important to this Stata than the Blue n
Hldge road, and will ba of thrice greater n
advantage to Charleaton, aa great a* nny b J ?
that of lha Blue Ridge. The Greenville ,
and Columbia railroad would at onoc be- d
comt a first class paying road, without the
fear of tapping, or ever loeing the advanta- r
gea hereafter. In fact, there te no other t
project that can certainly and completely i
elevate the Greenville and Columbia road ^
to a great through line, aa long as the (
waves of the At|antlo wash the coasts of |
South Carolina. It would oe a road for tha 1
benefit of thia State, her railroads, her
cities, and people generally. We should
not expect Augueta or Savannah to help
bnilJ it. but have a right to expect every
one who looks to the internet and prosperi'y
of South Carolina heartily to unite in
securing this road. Not only the Greenville
and Columbia road would be benefited,
as we have eaid, but the South Carolina
railroad would be permanently and securely
profited, aod Oolumbia, as well as
Charleston, would secure a prrmancn1
good. A better route to Charleston, and
aa short as any other from the West, would
result from this Greenville and A'heville
road. More of this hereafter.
We again suggest to our oltiz ms to call a
meeting nt an early day and appoint a iu
dicintis standing committee on this important
matter.
?? Real
Batata Prospects
There is do qvve.-lion that the value
( f real estate.is increasing from the effects
of-emancipation, and the necessity
of planters and others investing in
land nnd manufactures instead of ne.
groes ns formerly. The increased railroad
facilities, must inevitably enhance
the rnlue of tracts of land, And of lots,
in -fv!-?*1nrfl?r '?&? l- ur.?..ou"^"
Uiufl^niit If* iwwt.
....crtuy, the near ccmpletton of the AirIJno
Railroad, has added even now,
tbiitv five per cent to the vnlue of real
estate, and more than this will he the
result in Greenville very soon, and it
will not stop at that. Lands do not sell
e.cn now ml one third their real value.
In this connection, we would cite attention
to the various advertisements of
real estate, lots, <tc, in our columns.
There are also well improved places of- 1
fered for sale in this place, which can J
he bought on better terms at present, |
than will Ue possible a few months
henco. To our certain knowledge most
of these lote are offered for, not because '
' i
the owners wish to part with them, but <
only to raise funds to meet old debts, !
or some instances whoro the owners, ,
(ministers) have moved to other States
under special calls.
