II WArson, who is recovering from a serious illness. J&f The Court llouso is now undergoing thorough and complete repairs, by Messrs. Cure A Gibbs. Great Fire in Chicago, Illinois Chicago Oct. 8th. Six squares between Clinton, Vauburn and Jackson streets hare been burned. Saturday night's fire was subdued after loss of 500,000 dollars. Vincent, Nelson A Co's immense grain elevator was saved. Another fire in the western district commenced at nine o'clock Sunday night two miles distant from the oourt house. At two o'clock the fire had spread fearfully. The flames approached the telegraph office and the wires commenced falling. Twenty blocks were destroyed. The wind is blowing a gale from the south and flaming brands are flying over the eity threatening destruction everywhere. The tower of the Court House caught fire from a flying brand. The fire has reached West and Monroe 6trcets, a mile from its origin. The fire is beyond the control of the firemen. Immense lumber yards, with freight depots have burned. The loss already amounts to many millions ? The whole city is threatened. The panic is increasing. At half-past two o'clojk, the telegraphers abandoned the Western Union Telegrypo Office. Chicago 9tb?Later.?The fire is still raging and spreading south. A railroad Superdintencnt telegraphs that the fire has reached Wabash Avenue, and is spreading rapidly.? His location is three miles south of Wabash Avenue. He expresses the opinion that the fire will reach him before night. Later?9th, 10 A. M.?The entire business portion of the city is destroyed.
